WordPress 2.8 was released early today. The new version is said to be much faster than all its previous versions in terms of performance.

Some of the users are facing issued after using the auto upgrade option in WP but they later found out that the issues were caused by the faulty plugins. So if you are experiencing any problems after the upgrade, make sure you deactivate all your plugins and then activate them one by one to see which one is actually causing the problem.

WP-Wall in many cases is known to be causing some issues, and Yea, sometimes it could be your template as well which is incompatible with the latest upgrade.

This release comes with about 790 bug fixes and 180 new features and many feature upgrades and improvements.

Notable new features are..

New drag-and-drop widgets admin interface and new widgets API

Syntax highlighting and function lookup built into plugin and theme editors

Browse the theme directory and install themes from the admin

Allow the dashboard widgets to be arranged in up to four columns

Allow configuring the number of items to show on management pages with an option in Screen Options

Support timezones and automatic daylight savings time adjustment

Support IIS 7.0 URL Rewrite Module

Faster loading of admin pages via script compression and concatenation

The first thing I noticed was that the admin panle loads really fast. I also like the way Plugins page has been rearranged and optimized for better userability. Widgets page looks great with the added functionality, there are many small little things that have been improved which you will notice as you start using the latest version.

As usual, we have setup a dummy installation of WordPress 2.8 for our readers to test and experience the latest version without installing it.

The Login information remains the same..
