<p><a target="_blank" href="http://VeriSign.com">VeriSign</a> and other registries decided to increase the registration fees of the domain names by <strong>7%</strong>. The changes in the price will be in effect from 30th of September.</p>
<p> <a target="_blank" href="http://enom.com">eNom</a> made a similar announcement and the TLDs that are affected by this price change are <strong>.com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .us, and .name.</strong> Click <a href="http://www.enom.com/price-notification.asp">here</a> to see <a href="http://tnerd.com/tag/enom/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with eNom">eNom</a>&rsquo;s new pricing structure.</p>
<p><strong>Here is what I received from my registrar recently.</strong></p>
<p> &ldquo; In tandem with this price hike, the new gTLD pricing structure is as follows: <strong>Transfer-Ins and Renewals</strong> can be availed for at <strong>US$ 8.49</strong> whereas <strong>New registrations</strong> will be amounted for at <strong>US$ 9.49</strong>. So dear Customer, make the most of the existing pricing structure as the countdown to the price hike has begun!&rdquo;</p>
<p><span id="more-1754"></span></p>
<p> So if you have a domain to renewed do it right away or buying one is not a bad idea either. Your <a href="http://tnerd.com/tag/domain-name/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Domain Name">domain name</a> is your online identity; I always encourage my friends and readers to at least secure a domain after their own name. e.g. <a href="http://syedabbas.com">http://syedabbas.com</a></p>

Now you can have <a href="http://tnerd.com/tag/email-addresses/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with email addresses">email addresses</a> ending with <a href="http://tnerd.com/tag/ymail/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with ymail">Ymail</a>.com or rocketmail.com. However, I am not sure if this might lead to <strong>brand cannibalization. </strong>Having localized TLDs like <a href="http://tnerd.com/tag/yahoo/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Yahoo">yahoo</a>.co.in and <a href="http://tnerd.com/tag/yahoo/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with Yahoo">yahoo</a>.co.uk<strong> </strong>is a different strategy. But having totally different TLDs have a cannibalization effect<strong>.</strong></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Get your favorite IDs before it&#8217;s taken by others. I tried getting vivek@<a href="http://tnerd.com/tag/ymail/" class="st_tag internal_tag" rel="tag" title="Posts tagged with ymail">ymail</a>.com and vivek@rocketmail.com but they are both taken <img src='http://tnerd.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif' alt=':(' class='wp-smiley' /> .
