If you think your computer takes a lot of time to restart then it obviously does, or if you have a gazillion programs on your startup menu because of which computer takes a long time to start, then this one is for you.

Startup Delayer is a utility which reduces the machine startup time. r2 Studios, developers of this product are based out of Brisbane, Australia. They are a free software makers and accept donations, so be generous if you decide to use any of their applications.

Here is how it works.. The more applications you have on your startup menu the longer it takes for your machine to start because the machine fires up all the applications on the startup menu one of the other. Using startup delayer you can schedule the applications in the startup as desired resulting in improved startup time.

Here is how you use it.

This is what you will see first time you launch the application after the installation. What you see here is a list of applications which are suppose to start with windows or in other words are on the startup menu.

A user can start scheduling the applications in three ways, 1) Double click on the application name and set the time, 2) Drag and drop in the panel at the bottom of the application which says “To Delay an Application, Drag and Drop it here” and 3) Right-click on the application and set the time.

1) Double-Click Schedule: This is what you will see once you double click on any of the applications to schedule. In this window you can select the delayed time to start the application once the windows start and you can also select the state in which it should be started. E.g. Normal, Maximized or Minimized.

2) Drag and Drop schedule:

Applications can be dragged and dropped to be scheduled to start. Once you drop an application a bar appears on the bottom panel, click on the bar which shows the delayed time to start the selected application. Click on the bar and move it to the left or right to change the schedule time.

The three bars show that there are 3 applications which are scheduled to start

Now click on any of the bars and drag to right or left and notice the time changing in seconds and minutes at the bottom of the window.

3) Right-click schedule:

Right-click on any application and click on edit, a window appears where you can set your preferences to delay the startup time of the application.

Click on “Action” on the menu bar of this application to use/explore other features.

Start Over: This option clears all the scheduled applications in case if you want to start all over again.

Space Evenly: This lets you spread the startup time of the selected applications evenly. For example if you have 3 applications which need to be scheduled over a period of 2 minutes, just enter 120 (seconds) and the applications will be scheduled at an interval of 40 seconds each.

Activate Startup Delayer: This application works in two modes, 1) Hidden, and 2) Graphical. The first option will run the application in the background and the 2nd option will show a bar with information such as when will the next application launched, etc..

Most of the applications have a feature called “Start automatically when starting windows”, while using Startup Delayer to schedule an application make sure that the “Start automatically when starting windows” is disabled else you will see an alert when you restart the machine.

Hope this application helps you speed up your startup process. Do leave a comment and let us know if you use this application.
