With our lives becoming more and more digitized by the day where a “hmmm” on chat could mean a gazillion things depending up on the statements made in the last five minutes, a date could mean video chat or a gift could mean a funny looking icon on Facebook.

We take it to the next level by adding another point to our online “TO DO” list and scratching it off from the real world. This article talks about the confessions sites which have been around for a while now but have been gathering a lot of attention recently.

One such popular site is GroupHug (http://grouphug.us). The site was launched towards the end of 2003 and has invited close to a million confessions since then.  Founder Gabriel Jeffrey, still calls it an ongoing experiment and a work in progress and humbly asks the users to help him keep the site up & running spam-free by flagging off inappropriate content.

The content makes the site interesting as you get to read the darkest secrets of someone who you will never see and know, similarly you can confess without being afraid of being judged. Users do not need to register to post a confession on this site. The site selflessly assigns an automated ID instead asking for a name or an e-mail address.

One thing you can’t help but notice on such forums is that people are predictabily talking about 3 things all the time, Love,Sex and Betrayal. Alright lets make it 4, they talk about Violence as well.

“I have a level 38 warrior in a PVP server. I was also a test officer on a DIFFERENT pvp server! I fear the power corrupted me. “
“I was involved in beating the shit out of this guy and then dumping him in the east river a few years ago. He was found barely alive and his family was shown on the news crying.”

“My friend was getting married and picked out a rediculously expensive dress that her family couldnt afford. She asked me how it looked on her and I told her it waas bad and then suggested a different one that happened to be 100 dollars cheaper. I never told her mom that i did it on purpose but i think she knew and was grateful.”

“I will die by my own hand.

I tell everyone this, and they think I’m kidding or just trying to sound serious…

I am going to eventually kill myself. There’s no way around it. There’s this feeling inside that tells me that’s how it’s going to end.

I’m absolutely happy right now, and I always have been, but there’s a deep, psychotic need for suicide.

I want to kill myself. I don’t want to die any other way.”

I had to be choosy about the confessions I put up here to keep things nice and clean but the site has much more to offer. That’s what internet is all about, free speech!
