Samsung has introduced its ‘Samsung E1107 Crest Solar’ mobile phone which is also known as ‘Samsung Solar Guru’ in India.

It is a solar powered basic mobile phone that is built on the ‘green’ concept and has finally lined itself in the array besides Nokia and Sony Ericsson which have also designed models on the ‘green’ earth concept; of course they are not Solar though.

Although what lines up in the array of Samsung’s mobile phone as the world’s first solar powered phone, it will soon a nudge competitor when Sharp releases its SH002 mobile phone (on June 24th) that is built on the same concept but has much better features than the Solar Guru.

The Samsung Solar Guru features a 1.52inch screen with a CSTN display that offers 65K colors at 128×128 pixels. It is a 500 entries phone book and comes with a flash light,mp3 ringtones, a speaker phone and a security feature what Samsung calls Mobile Tracker to trace your lost or stolen mobile phone. To keep yourself entertained, you can listen to the radio on its FM or have some fun with its built-in games.

A standard Li-on 800mAh battery powers the phone which can be charged either using the traditional charger that comes with it or using the solar cell on its back, so you will definitely like spending more time in the Sun.

An hour of charge through the solar cell will power the phone for a talk time of up to 10 minutes, which means it takes 40 hrs approximately for a complete charge on the battery through it.

The solar phone supports a dual band (900/1800) GSM network and weighs 82gms. It will be available in black color at an affordable price of 59$ or 2,799 INR unlocked. It is now available in India and is expected to be also released in Europe, Southeast Asia, Southwest Asia and Latin America.

The marketing campaign takes life starting next week (Nov in UK. Launch of the phone is a little bit of a mystery as we hear to many voices announcing the launch date. Earlier the launch date was Mid-October then End of October and now Mid-November is the due date.

Phones4u has a page up talking about Samsung M8800 Pixon where you can buy it from, however, when you try to buy the phone the page tells you that the phone is due launch mid-November.

Pixon M8800 offers a 3.2 inches touch screen which complements its 8 megapixel camera and makes it an idle companion for clicking pictures and watching movies on the go. The phone is expected to come in 8 and 16 GB storage space and an additional space of 8 GB can be added using a microSD card.

The camera has auto focus, image stabilization and face recognition which has blink and smile detection. M8800 has an inbuilt GPS which geo-tags the pictures and videos taken using the phone camera.

Samsungs Pixon also offers HSDPA option which lets you play media content on HSDPA compatible TV’s, Computers and any other HSDPA compatible appliances. Price of the phone is expected to be around $US 800 and will be available at stores by 2nd of October. If only this phone had a sliding QWERTY keyboard like the one on G1 and a WiFi support, it would have been one of the top 3 phones available in the market.

Samsung released a 1 GB Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card. So going forward you don’t have to buy those expensive memory cards for your phone to store videos, photos and other files. It is not in the market yet but the phone companies are expected to hook on to this revolutionary technology soon.
