I met a friend yesterday who is visiting India to setup a small team in pune for his start-up. He is from London working with a team of 2 other friends who launched the site about 3-4 months ago which is still under closed beta (I wont disclose the name right now).

All three founders are in Pune trying to hire good Ruby on Rails professionals with no luck so far. He was surprised at the situation here, because Rails has picked up big time in other technical hubs of the world but India is still paying the catchup game.

Rails is certainly much in demand but we still don’t have many hardcore Rails developers. The ones which are there are either working on their own projects or are not interested in full time employment or just not up to the mark as they are still in the learning stage.

One of the reasons to this could be that Rails is largely a freelancer, web 2.0′ish language as of now in India because applications can be developed and deployed comparatively faster than in other languages. It’s just a matter of time before Indian professionals catchup and excel at it.

If you are a Rails professional and looking for a job send your resumes to nerds [at] tnerd.com
