Not that web 2.0 doesn’t have mashups but the way these mashups will add various functionality for web 3.0 is beyond imagination. Also, called as web application hybrid, these mashups are going to radically change the way we access web and it’s components.

What we are going to see today is something which creates a wonderful mashup and provides functionality which creates a very unique experience. This service is called as MashLogic and is one that promises to help web surfers take back the web. Before we get into the details of what this service is and how it creates a phenomenal web experience, let’s see what a mashup means. According to the wikipedia:

In web development, a mashup is a web application that combines data from more than one source into a single integrated tool. Mashups should be differentiated from simple embedding of data from another site to form compound documents.

What is MashLogic?

MashLogic is a Firefox extension that works quietly under the hood to enrich web pages with the kind of information and media you care about. MashLogic highlights all the important stuff on a web page and provides you with more information (in form of videos, wiki definitions etc) about them. Following is a snapshot of what MashLogic does and wonderfully mashes up things for a great browsing experience.

Not that MashLogic is one of it’s kind. Actually services similar to this already exist. We already covered a similar but restricted service by AnswerTips. Another one which is similar to this is called as Hyperwords. Another great service similar to this is Interclue. Another similar service is Sphere. This one however is for your blogs and enhances your blogging activities and let’s you generate great blog content.

Where is MashLogic from?

MashLogic is incubated by Bessemer Venture Partners and based in Menlo Park, CA.

Following is how the settings screen looks like where you can set various MashLogic preferences.

Right now this service is in private beta and you have to sign up for getting an invite. The business model will be of course base on contextual advertising or affiliate links. I am sure this is just the beginning.

The benefits are just too many when it comes to reading stuff using RSS. Taking into consideration the significance of RSS in coming years and to leverage the power, flexibility and ad potential of RSS, various companies are trying to create opportunities. Not to ignore the significance of RSS marketing for driving traffic, many websites and companies have dedicated RSS marketing teams. If they don’t then I am afraid it’s about time for them to make a move before anyone else.

Working on this same philosophy of leveraging from RSS, there’s a new service which creates a mashup of RSS feeds that you love into one single feed. The service is called as RSSMixer and the mashup of feeds that it generates is available in the following format.

RSS Feed

HTML

Mobile

Widgets

I am still trying to understand what are the connotation of this model. If I were to use my not so lame thought process to march into an unknown territory of interpreting things, I’d say there’s a lot of potential. Let’s see how:

For the users: Let’s say I am in dire need of subscribing to designers and concept creators related blogs and feeds. I can start looking online for such websites/blogs and eventually subuscribe to them. Or the easier way would be to get a RSSMixer mashup feed of some user who already have these blog feeds with her/him. Looks like a great potential for sharing the feeds in a very convinient way.

For the blogs and feed providers. I am sure at some point of time this service could generate statistics based on various mashedup feed hueristics to give food for thought for the bloggers or feed providers. This however, would be quite number crunching and analytically rigorous.

For the company RSSMixer, this has the advantage of both creating oppurtunities with user generated content and in future using the same to come out with a revenue generation model.

Having flabbergasted so much about this service it’s would ironical to see it not staying up to it’s potential. Let’s take a look at the screenshot of the service.

I tried creating a mashup of feeds from ReadWriteWeb, FlickrBabes feeds and got the following feed:

http://www.rssmixer.com/mixes/9844-mix.rss

We hope this service lives up to it’s potential.

Things have gone beyond emails and personal messages. I can keep track of my buddies on twitter and it’s much more powerful non-intriguing way of knowing what your pals are up to. There are plenty of applications for integrating twitter on iPhone. That’s not the point I am trying to make.

Think about this. There are various ways of using twitter and you keep a track of what’s happening. But isn’t it kind of boring.

Now think about this. What if you have a service that tells you where your friend sent a tweet from when she/he uses an iPhone to send that Tweet. Sounds interesting and right out of a James bond flick. But that’s possible now. All it requires is your friend using iPhone to tweet and a service called as iPhoneTwitters.

What it does is it shows ou from what part of the world your friend twittered using their iPhone. Think of the possibility. Your Girlfriend is sends a tweet using her mobile and you get a glimpse of where she is. For a surprise you go reach that place in no time with some flowers in hand and plan for great evening. Caution, it can also lead you to find out that your girlfriend is cheating on you.

This service just blows off the the concept of privacy. But I mean does privacy really matter in today’s world. The mashup of this kind is very new and I am sure this service will grow as more and more people will use iPhone and twitter using iPhone. But this will change the way we interact and take it to a new level.

The serive is still in very early stages and could become an instant hit in no time.
