Linkedin recently joined the “Application” race along with sites like Facebook, Orkut, etc.. However the idea of offering applications on LinkedIn is not the same and is not to be a part of the mad rush to have gazillion applications with thousands of developers developing them to make some money out of it.

The new announcement fits right into what LinkedIn is all about. These applications let its users enhance their profile by sharing information about their professional activities.

LinkedIn announced about 9 applications which include, WordPress, Amazon, Box.net, SlideShare, Google Presentations, Tripit, etc..

Each of these applications has a pourpose and certainly contributes to your professional profile. For example, by using WordPress application you can display the latest posts from your blog on your LinkedIn profile and most certainly this demonstrates your knowledge and perspective in your niche.

Using Amazon’s application the users can display a list of recommended books, Tripit to show your current location, travelling plans, next event, etc.. it keeps your contacts updated with your travelling plans creating more opportunities of meeting one another.

Like I said, these applications are not there to make your profile page more cluttered but to let your contacts know more about you, your knowledge, capabilities, etc..

We certainly recommend each linkedin user to try these applications and add more value to their professional profile.

Click here to visit the application page on LinkedIn

Launch of these new features are aimed at making Linkedin user information easily searchable and accessible.

As mentioned on the blog, the search functionality is redesigned from the scratch. The new functionality is not directly accessible as of now as it is a beta release.

To use this new functionality, first go to “People’s Search” and click on a link called “Try Linkedin’s new People Search.” in the right top corner of the search page.

The improvements include:

 Unified Search Results:
This improvement eliminates the need to click on different tabs to view the results of people in or out of your network.

In Common:
This Field shows the groups and connections you have in common with the selected users.

Saved Searches:
Now you can search for people and also save those searches for further references. The blog post also says that this functionality will be extended in future to add alerts functionality for new additions in the results.

Views:
The search page now offers two different views, 1) Basic, 2) Expanded

I recently started using LinkedIn, I don’t have a HUGE meaningful network yet, but I’ll get there soon. I realized, LinkedIn is not easy to navigate or use for a newbie (That’s me). I wanted to delete one of my contact/connection from my network and I had no Idea how to do it, thats it, that ticked me off. I spend an hour trying to delete the contact and was able to do it at last.

Here is how you can do it too….

Login to your LinkedIn account or if you are already logged in get back to the home page. You will see a navigation bar as shown in the picture below, click on "My Contacts"

Once you click on "My Contacts" click on "Connections" from the options as shown in the picture below

Now you will be taken to another page, scroll down a little bit and you should see an option "Remove Connections" on the bottom right side of the page, click on it (Don’t give up yet, we are almost there)

Thats it, as shown in the picture below, first select the contacts or connections you want to remove and then click on the button "Remove Connections" and confirm your action.

Congratulations, you are done. You just got rid of a contact which you never wanted to see on your list.

By the way here is my LinkedIn "Syed Abbas"
