iTunes 8.0 offers one of the easiest ways of creating ringtones for your iPhone but it only convert songs which are bought from the iTunes store not the others.

There is still a way to create ringtones using iTunes. It’s not as simple as right-clicking and choosing “ringtone” but a few additional clicks will do the trick.

The steps in this article will show you how to create a AAC version of the existing songs and then convert the extension of the song and importing it to the iTunes ringtone library. Might sound a little confusing but I promise ill keep it simple..

Follow the steps below to create the ringtone of any song from your iTunes library..

First step after selecting the song you want to make a ringtone, Right-click on the song and click on “Get Info”

Go to “Options” tab and change the “Stop Time” to 0.30 sec to create ringtone which is 30 seconds long. You can also change the “Start Time” if you want the ringtone to start a little later..

Come back to the song, Right-Click and select “Create AAC Version”

Now you will see two versions of the same song.. One 3:13 mins long which is the original and the ringtone version which is 30 seconds long.

Right-Click on the ringtone version of the song and select “Show in Windows Explorer”

Right-click and click on “Rename”

Rename the extension (how to view file extensions on windows) from “.m4a” to “.m4r” and double-click the ringtone to open it in iTunes

You will see the new ringtone added to your ringtone library on iTunes

Simply sync the ringtones with your iPhone and enjoy newly created ringtone.

iRinger is another software which does the same thing and also saves a few clicks. The software is supported by ads, so its free to download and use.

Click here to download iRinger and here to download iTunes.

Note: Steps might differe a little on MAC.. Check out the comment from Junaid (thanks for pointing it out) to get it working on MAC! here
