Flurry offers a widely adapted mobile analytics solutions. Company claims 80% of the applications running on Smartphones have Flurry tracking their performance. This puts Flurry in a good position to track and analyze each smartphones popularity and progress in the market.

Nexus One is known to be the most advanced android phone till date (it’s a reasonable argument that HTC Desire is a better handset as it is mostly based on Nexus One’s improvements.) and coming from Google, it had the “iPhone Killer” tag attached to it. Nexus One was expected to do a lot better than all the other Android phones because of its initial hype and the fact that it was Google’s first handset launch.

Flurry recently released data which showed Nexus One sold 135,000 handsets as oppose to 1 million Generation One iPhone’s sold in the same period after its launch, i.e. 74 Days. Why 74 Days you may ask! Flurry picked 74 days as the number because that’s how long it took Apple to sell 1 million iPhones after its first launch which has now become the benchmark.

These numbers also include a few thousand free phones that were given to Googlers around the world as part of the Dog food drive. Though it might not be a significant number, it does have an effect when a company ends up selling 135,000 phones only.

Though it might not sound like a fair comparison between Nexus One and iPad as one is a mobile phone and the other, so called “Tablet”, day 1 pre-order sales of iPad only goes to show the brand value and product popularity Apple enjoys in consumer electronic market.

On the other hand, Motorola’s Droid surprised everyone with its sale of 1.05 million phones in the same time. Flurry points the 3 possible reasons as to how Motorola managed to beat Apple to its initial sales numbers.

Consumer Perseption & Demand

Relative Subscriber Base: Verizon has a considerable larger user base than compared to AT&T

Holiday Season Sales: The other two phones from Apple and Google were not launched around the holiday season nor did the 74 day period cover the holiday season, only Motorola’s Droid did.

This is just the beginning of the Mobile wars between the tech giants. Next time flurry comes out with a similar graph I am sure we will have Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 7 as one of the contenders.

Holidays are best served by gifts from the loved ones or to the loved ones. Seems like Apple has attributed this fact to its list of already interesting marketing strategies. The holiday season is on (may you say almost near) and the best way to celebrate it is to share some gifts with our loved ones.

Apple is offering Apple gift cards for its products which can be redeemed at any online or retail Apple stores for an Apple product (iPhone in particular). You can gift someone an Apple iPhone gift card which starts from as low as $25 for a new iPhone while the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G S start at $99 and $199 respectively.

All you need to do is buy an iPhone gift card and give it to the recipient. When the recipient moves in to redeem the card, the Apple Store will deploy a ‘Specialist’ to take care of the post-purchase duties.

Apple iPhone : The Best Holiday Gift

That means, the Specialist will take charge of setting up the iPhone, the user’s email account, and the Specialist will also help the person in customizing the Home screen, personalizing ringtones, choosing some ‘great iPhone applications’ and also finding the favorite songs.

Accessories like stylish cases for iPhone, iPhone skins, iPod Docks, designer bags for Macbooks, Eye-Fi Wireless Memory cards, printers and a bunch of Roxio softwares, Office Mac, iWork, Nike+iPod Sports Kit and many other interesting softwares are also available which can make great gifts.

Not just this, you can even choose to gift from a fully customized MacBook Pro, Mogo Talk Bluetooth headset for iPhone, Apple Magic Mouse, a set of cool headsets, great Mac games including The Sims 3, Sid Meier’s Civilization IV and Plants Vs Zombies by Popcap.

Precisely, everything that’s available through Apple is up for holiday season sale and can be gifted. The most exciting part of this is that all the items available in the gift guide will be shipped free to your place during the holiday period.

Also, you can personalize the item you are gifted by engraving a custom message on it for free. So, what are you waiting for? Grab the chance and make the most of it ’cause you don’t need an occasion to make someone smile. But if you insist, we’ll suggest it couldn’t get any better than making it a Christmas gift.

We’ve seen all sorts of applications for adult iPhone users. Thanks to Tickle Tap Apps, now we are starting to see apps for preschoolers.

Tickle Tap Apps is owned by zinc Roe, an award-winning studio in creating websites and games for kids and youth.

Given the expertise at zinc Roe, Tickle Tap Apps was a logical extension to attract new userbase.

The company has released 10 applications so far. Each of these applications are designed for enhanced learning through tested and proven methods for children’s education.

There are applications like Sort Slider which test and enhance a child’s ability to match similar shapes or Count Candy which teaches counting and numbers or Sound Shaker which lets children create and play with chimes, drums, etc..

The application are priced up to $1.99 each but are well worth the money as children learn a great deal from such application without even knowing they are learning stuff. But of course I don’t know many people who would just hand over their iPhones to the kids for a round of Count Candy

Watch the following video to know more about Tickle Tap Apps or click here (iTunes link)to see all Tickle Tap Applications on iTunes.

Google launched personalized suggest for iPhone, Android and Palm WebOS. This nifty little feature will Sync with the searches made on a PC and show the same as suggestions when a user searches using a mobile phone.

This certainly improves the performance and helps users accelerate through the searches on their mobile phones. Also, the advantage of having your searches sync is that you can sometimes start where you left off on the PC or simply run through the search history.

The suggestions shown on the phone interface are personalized based on your search history. See the image below to know what I mean…

Users should be logged into their Google accounts to be able to take advantage of this feature and understandably logins should be the same on the phone and PC to see the correct information in terms of Search History and Personalized Suggestions!

Such small, yet intelligent features keep Google ahead of its competition and thats what I love about Google!

Apple iPod Event 2009 has a good list of great happenings, say, the release of iPod Nano 5G with camera, launch of iTunes 9 and the iPhone OS 3.1.1 besides other events.

In our recent article, you have read about the iPhone OS 3.1 SDK but the public release of the OS has already hit the Apple website. So, what’s the need to update or better, what’s in the update? Well, the Apple iPhone OS 3.1 update comes with a lot of bug fixes, security fixes and other performance and reality enhancements.

The update also packs Genius recommendations for iPhone or iPod applications which automatically creates application recommendations for your iPhone or iPod Touch based on the applications already installed on your device.

Now you can download ringtones wirelessly from the Apple for your device, that means, download countless ringtones from the Apple Store at just a click (of course, you will have to pay for the downloads).

The iPhone OS 3.1 software also comes with genius recommendations for applications, redeem iTunes Gift cards, codes, and certificates in the Applications Store, and the ability to display available iTunes account credits in the Applications Store and iTunes Store.

Missed an Update? Update Now!

Not only this, you can use your iTunes software to just drag and sync your applications with the iPhone. Besides these, other numerous updates like better Wi-Fi connectivity when bluetooth is turned on, anti phishing alerts in Safari browser, voice control in Apple iPhone 3GS using a bluetooth headset, support for many languages and much more.

The Apple iPhone OS 3.1 is available for free download now for all the iPhone owners with 3.0 OSs (earlier versions should also do) and fixes most of the issues that you might have ever experienced with your Apple device.

But, the very sad thing about the update is, once you have upgraded to the new OS, you will not be able to jailbreak your iPod Touch or iPhone leaving you the only choice of learning the art of patience until another update for the Apple iPhone OS is rolled out.

Just hit the link below for the complete info about the Apple iPhone OS 3.0. And yes, remember, the Apple iPhone OS 3.1 Free Download is literally free for all iPhone users running iPhone OS 3.0 while you have to shell out some $4.95 to patch up your iPod Touch with the update.

Charge your iPhone or iPod under the sky! Apple iPhone owners now have a legitimate solution to wipe off frustrations about their draining battery charge.

Many iPhone users, especially those who explore the internet capabilities of the iPhone or rely on it for round-the-clock entertainment fear every second of the rapidly melting battery backup, which is quite a universally accepted belief.

<!--more--

>Naturally, you would grope for a near by power socket to refresh your device’s battery level but what would you do in an odd situation? Just switch to green power, Solar Energy, we mean. All you need is a portable solar charger for your device.

Novothink has launched a solar charger for iPhone which is the first and the only to be officially approved by Apple yet. Novolink Surge Solar Charger (as it is named) can be dressed over your iPhone or iPod Touch to give an elegant look while the solar panel on the back of the charger absorbs solar energy to power your device by providing charging supplements from the integrated 3.7V Li-on battery of the charger.

Featured: Novothink Solar Charger

In case, the Sun is playing hide and seek with you, just connect the Apple solar charger to the USB on your PC or laptop and it begins to charge your iPhone or iPod Touch instantly.

The LED indicators on the top hint you about the battery level. A Novocord is also included with the pack if you want to hang in by the windows, fasten it on your backpack or wear it around your wrist.

Novothink Solar Charger for iPhone is not the first of its kind, but definitely its the only one that Steve Jobs approved for your Apple babies and is available in some nine decent colors to pick.

Although we would not recommend you to buy any one of the following surrogates, we’d still like to keep you informed about the less privileged ones. Take a look.

1. iTablet’s Solio Charger for iPhone which is available at $79.95 (Pictured Below).

2. Free loader iPhone Charger: This is one good piece that can charge any other portable electronic devices, even your PSPs or iPods or other branded mobile phones.

Featured: Free Loader Solar Charger

3. PowCell by MotionTouch: This is yet another iPhone Solar Charger which lets you charge your iPhone on the go. It not only charges your iPod or iPhone but also charges a built in battery under its hood which can be used in case of a power gap.

Featured : Powcell iPod Solar Charger (works with Blackberry too)

Its PowCell an iPhone charger that has got both style and substance (sadly, not endorsed by Apple) but it is yet to get tags on pricing and availability (Pictured above).

[Note: Numbered above (1-3) are solar chargers compatible with iPhone but not officially approved by Apple]

As of now, Novothink has launced the iPod Touch charger for iPod Touch 2G only. Siblings for Apple iPhone 3G and 3GS will be rolled out in November, hopefully and are expected to cost around $70.

If you are a travelling nerd or a busy geek, the iPhone Solar Charger should be the certain choice for alternative charging. So, the next time you will not have to quit a game out of fear of running out of battery before you are back to the den for a recharge.

Go ahead! Play. Explore.

We have been writing about quite a few concept gadgets and concept phones. Sony PSP Concept Phone, Oakley Stealth Watch, Nokia Pulse Projector, and many more, to name a few.

With the rapid evolution of technology and its manifold existent forms, we must be ready to accept it in unpredictable shapes and forms. Anything that is imaginable is possible, a belief which is the most influential driving force behind this.

Here is a list of the Top 5 Concept Phones that are likely to hit reality.

1. Window Phone– A Concept Phone For Weather Curious People

We are talking about the Window Phone. A concept phone which changes its display according to the weather conditions. The most interesting thing about the phone is its translucent appearance.

Reportedly, the Window Phone changes its display to reflect climatic conditions, for instance, it displays droplets on the screen for a rainy day, snowy flakes for a snowy day and a crystal clear display for a bright sunny day.

What’s Hot : It’s raining here!

The Window phone is your window to weather forecast and makes accurate predictions (we don’t know what the science behind this assertion is!). When you blow your breath, it moves into the handwriting mode. What a fun!

We’ll post our hands-on review of the Window Phone, if it hits reality. Cannot assume how far that reality is, atleast for the weird concept the design is atomized on.

2. Nokia Morph Concept

Nokia Research Center and Cambridge NanoScience Center have been working on the Nokia Morph Phone (concept) for quite a long time. The phone is completely built and based on nanotechnology.

Nokia Morph : Phone. Watch. Media Player

“Morph” means to change form, literally. And the Nokia Morph Concept has got it all. It can transform from a flat shaped portable TV like gadget into a cool looking phone. Furthermore, it is flexible enough to be worn as a wrist watch. All thanks to the Nano Technology that is used for the design.

It may include a camera, will have a full touch panel and will be supposedly dust proof.Nokia already makes great phones and this one is a great concept phone. Wish that it hits reality until we are still young.

In the meantime, we’ll wait to see if Nokia has any updates for the same. Presumptively, it isn’t coming very soon, but you can still check out the video for the testimonial.

3. Bracelet Phone

Designer Tao Ma (remember Yanko.com) has come up with a new concept phone. It’s the Bracelet Phone . Yes, you read it right, the design suggests that a phone is integrated into a stylish bracelet which has diamond shaped buttons to make and receive calls. Ah yes, the bracelet phone vibrates to alert you of an incoming call.

Bejewelled : Bracelet Phone

The Bracelet Phone also doubles as a mp3 player to entertain you. Absolutely not weird. One piece that could be used as an mp3 player, a phone and a funky bracelet. Interestingly, the concept phone would be targeted at women if it were to hit reality, in the not so distant future.

The designer also has a sequel to the original Bracelet Phone concept, the Bracelet Phone II (pictured below). The new baby has a Bluetooth headset to let you listen to music handsfree in style.

4. The iPhone Pro Concept Phone Has A Physical QWERTY Keypad

If you are an iPhone lover, then you will love this concept phone to the core. One of the most common regrets you may have must be the absence of a physical keyboard on the iPhone. We have no idea if Apple has any plans to introduce one in the future, but if Apple does not, somebody else will and the concept design is already making waves.

The iPhone Concept Pro : Overpowering Apple ?

The iPhone Concept Phone looks more or less similar to the Apple iPhone but it has a landscape QWERTY physical slide-out keyboard. The only visible difference in the physical form factor.

The technical specs are also revved up. With 64GB of internal memory, iPhone OS X2.0. 2 MP camera and connectivity options like 3G and GPS, this iPhone Concept Phone will take the cell phone market by a storm.

Racing more, it will have real push e-mail which will knock down Blackberry sales, we suppose, if it were to hit reality. And, we don’t see any great obstacles on the way except the price factor.

5. The Universal Phone Concept

Universal Phone, a concept phone that is designed to be useful to the visually impaired, blind, as well as the blessed ones like us equally even the blind.

If Louis Braille desgined the Braille System in 1821 for the blind to read and write, he would have never had even the slightest idea about the extent to which his one noble idea can be harnessed.

All the mobile phones have a dot on the number 5 key, and that’s for the poor blind people, However, we have a concept phone that is one step ahead.

Designer Seunghan Song has come with a concept phone design that not only lets the blind make calls by sensing the keys but all allows them to read text messages.

Great Concept Phone : Designed For A Noble Cause

The Universal Phone gives the illusion to the user as a touch screen phone while it actually uses a lot of micro pins which come up to from Braille platform.

This is a phone for blind people, but users without any impairments can take advantage of its features as well. Its keypad features thousands of micro pins, that get lowered or raised in different modes, transforming into a Braille platform that can be “read” by people with sight impairments.

Afterall, everything good is for the sake of Humanity!

Do these concept phones sound interesting to you, just as they thrill me? Feel free to pen down your opinions under comments. Hang on, we will keep you updated about more upcoming concept phones.

Get Ready to taste the next flavor. Coming Soon.

Given the hefty price tag your iPhone, and the amount of personal data that it stores, it is absolute necessary for all iPhone users to protect their phone.

Nobody can keep a thief from stealing the device from your pockets, but there are several important steps which can be done so as to increase your chances of getting the iPhone back.

1. Turn On Passcode Lock

Most people are not careful enough to implement a passcode lock on their iPhones. Even though the passcode lock won’t prevent anyone from snatching your phone, but will keep your private information private. You can enable it by the following steps.

Select “Settings”.

Click “General”.

Go to “Passcode”.

Now enter a 4 digit password.

You should always remember it.

2. Auto-Lock

iPhone comes with an auto-lock option, which automatically locks your phone after a specified period of time, and it requires the 4 digit passcode to unlock it. The auto-lock must be set on either one or two minutes to ensure that minimum time is spent on your unlocked iPhone.

3. Record Your iPhone’s IMEI Number and Serial Number

iPhone’s has a fifteen digit International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number which is used by wireless carriers to identify your phone. This can be noted on the back of your iPhone along with your FCC ID and serial number. These are important while reporting a stolen or lost device.

4. SIM PIN

You should assign a PIN to your SIM card, so it can’t be used in any other phones without the PIN. It should be entered when you turn the iPhone on, or when you replace the SIM card.

Select “Settings”.

Choose “Phone”.

Now turn on “SIM PIN”.

You will be prompted to enter the current PIN. You must enter the default PIN number.

After giving the default value, you can change the code according to your liking.

5. Frequently Back Up Your iPhone

You should back up your device which is crucial in all situations. Even if you lose your phone, or if you are victim of a theft, or if you simply have a buggy iPhone which crash suddenly one day, backing up your iPhone insure the safety of your data.

6. Use some security software.

The usage of some kind of security software in iPhone helps to regain the phone in case of a theft or it will reduce the loss of valuable data in the phone. Some typical examples are

GadgetTrak- It will help to find out the burglar by sending you his precise location.

FindMe- FindMe automatically updates the location of your iPhone on Twitter.

PhoneScream- PhoneScream will play a very loud siren and will vibrate rigorously when any unauthorized user moves the phone.

Motion Alarm- Motion Alarm is a grown up version of PhoneScream which has more added features in it.

7. Steps to be done in case a phone is lost.

Notify the operator so they can deactivate the wireless account so that thief can’t use your mobile account.

Immediately file a police report which will reduce the further complications due to the misuse of the phone.

Notify your important contacts. You should inform the people whom you contact frequently that it’s not you who is calling or texting them through your old number.

You should change all your passwords immediately.

These steps will not ensure that your iPhone is never stolen but it will almost ensure that the phone is trackble at least for a while or the data is protected in case the phone falls into the wrong hands.
