Gmail Labs: How to setup Multiple-inboxes in Gmail [Feature Alert]

Gmail recently announced the Multiple Inboxes feature in Gmail Labs. Don’t go by the name, it wont allow you to setup multiple accounts in one but what it does is, it lets you create and setup a “Custom search” in “Multiple Inboxes”.

Once setup it will split the screen and start showing e-mails from the custom search.

Here is how you can set it up:

Login to Gmail and Go to Settings
Go to Labs and “Enable” Multiple Inboxes

Now return to your “inbox” and see the screen split into 3 with default custom search showing e-mails from Drafts, Inbox, etc in different panes.

Now customize the view further and add your own custom searches go to “Settings” and “Multiple Inboxes”, remove the default custom searches (if you like) and add your own, select the number of conversations you want to see and where you want to see it, Right side of the inbox, Above the inbox or Below the inbox and “Save Changes”.

That’s it.. you are all set..

I use Google Desktop, it’s always sitting on my desktop as a sidebar and this kind of messes up the formatting in the “Multiple Inbox” view, Gmail team probably needs to fix it.

Watch Live News Online using CNNIBN Google Desktop Gadget!

I have been a great fan of IBNLive for the reason that its News Channel is available online Live.

But when I recently tried to access the live news from IBNlive.com, I couldn’t find it online. Disappointed, I started searching for other sources and found CNNIBN Google Desktop Gadget.

This Gadget is a 100 times better than what IBNLive offered as it sinks in with the Google Desktop and does not require you to keep your browser open and on top of other windows.. and what not. This is another feather in the cap for the IBNLive’s technical team.

What surprised me was that this Gadget was launched almost a year ago and the download count didnt even cross 500. I certainly think there are many more tech people who’d like to keep tabs on whats happening around them.

Following Image shows how CNNIBN Gadget fits in to Google Desktop and what it looks like.

Use Google Gadgets on the Desktop without installing Google Desktop!

Google released Google Universal Gadgets for people to use it on their blogs and websites; in case you want to use it on the Desktop then Google Desktop is required. This article will show you how to use Google Universal Gadgets without having Google Desktop installed on the computer. As Google Videos is my favorite I will walk you through the steps of installing Google Videos Gadget on the desktop!

Here is an overview of what we are about to do.
First we will create a .html page with one of the Google Universal Gadget’s code in it and save it somewhere on the computer. Next we will go to Display properties and Desktop and browse to the location and select the .html file with Google Universal Gadget’s code we created earlier. That’s it! You will see the Google Gadget on your desktop now.

Mentioned below are detailed steps to install Google Gadgets on the desktop.

Open Notepad
Now copy the below mentioned code and paste it in notepad or Click here to download the .HTML file.

In notepad click on File > Save As > and the "File Name" should be something.html ".html" is important, file can be named anything but the extension should always be ".html"
Right click on the Desktop > Properties > Desktop > Browse > Change the "File Type" to "HTML Documents" and browse to the location you have saved the newly created .html file and doubleclick on it.
Click OK!

NOTE: If you see "Formatting" error after completign the steps make sure there are no SPACE’s starting from . Make sure there are no spaces in that line of code or just download the .HTML file

Here is what my desktop looks like after performing the steps mentioend above: I just have one Icon on my Desktop! The fun part is every time you refresh your desktop you will see a new video. Just click on play button and it will start playing on the desktop, refresh the desktop and watch a new video. Click here to browse through 100’s of Google Gadgets. This was the basic implementation; however you can use webpage editing software to properly align the Gadget on the desktop. This can also be done using Windows Active Desktop in Windows XP (But I like this method better!)

Couple of things to keep in mind:

The steps above are performed on Windows XP they might or might not work on other O/S.
Some of the Gadgets might or might not work, I haven’t tested with many
