The next redefining moment in the evolution of Internet for me was the genesis of the concept of user generated content. I can never believe, what myspace and youtube achieved, in the short stint that they’ve been around. Blogging has had it’s own place and moments, but for what has redefined web very recently is concept of mini blogging and I don’t know for you what comes to mind when someone says mini blogging. For me there’s no other word but Twitter that is almost synonymous to mini blogging and I try to keep finding ways of staying along with Twitter day in and day out in spite of hectic schedule.

For a blogger (I can start putting myself in that elite category), every day is a new challenge to come up with ideas to blog. And I think professional blogging some where takes away from me the personal part of my web life. I love Twitter for this very reason that it somewhere saves my personal life on the web. I know many of the bloggers use it to beautiful market their blog and work and I have nothing against this philosophy. Twitter for me is more than a platform to show off my blog posts.

Sometimes, I get too involved in making a point and this post is an outcome of one such involvement. What I wanted to discuss here is that twitter is a great way keeping a record of what you were doing in your life and this demands for backing up tweets so you can cherish the moments reading your tweets even after 20 years. So, how do we take a backup of tweets? There’s a good solution to this in the form of Tweetake.

Tweetake allows you to take a backup of the following:

Followers

Friends

Favorites

Your Tweets

Everything

Just enter your login credentials and select what backup you want. However, you would have to shut down your Twitter client like tweetdeck, twhirl and others.

In case you want to follow a manual method, follow the steps below courtesy tweetcrunch:

1. Put http://twitter.com/statuses/followers.xml in your address bar of your browser.
2. Save this page in your browser and read it as an XML file, with for example excel. If you have a lot of followers then use http://twitter.com/statuses/followers.xml?page=2 and so on.
3. For your friends use the same process with this link http://twitter.com/statuses/friends.xml

Have a good time Tweeting. You can follow TNerd.com on twitter at http://twitter.com/tnerd.
