Adding a Favicon is one of the easiest things you can do on your blog or a website. You can do a couple of things to create your own, customized Favicon. The easiest way to make your Favicon is to visit http://www.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/, follow the instructions and you will have your Faveicon in less than a minute. You can also visit two of my favorite sites to download the Icon creating software’s 1. http://www.axialis.com/ 2. http://www.microangelo.us/, both of these software’s are easy to use and can create Icons in seconds.

Now once you have your Favicon created, how can you put it up on your website?

Once the Favicon is created upload the Favicon to your website and add the following code in the <Head></Head> part of your website.

FavIcon Code:
<link rel="icon" href="<Add the Icon path here>/WhatEver.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="<Add the Icon path here>/WhatEver.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
(Change the code in Red)

Sometimes the Favicon does not show up in the Internet Explorer, Why?
Even Bill Gates does not know the answer to the "Why" of Microsoft products. The way I resolve this issue is

  • Drag the URL out of navigation bar and drop it right back in
  • Repeat this step for 2-3 times and you will see the Favicon

Or

  • Keep browsing your site and it will show up in sometime! (Not sure when!)
