Digital cameras have gone way too far with technological advancements. While some cameras use stereoscopic lenses to capture 3D images and some use dual lenses like the Kodak Dual Lens camera series, a Japanese researcher had developed a multi lens 3D camera with a whopping 158 lenses.

Oh, we know that’s jaw dropping but that’s true. Yojiro Ishino of the Nagoya institute of Technology has merged 158 high power lenses across 4 rows in an arc shaped structure to create a super-powerful 3D camera.

The multi lens 3D camera entered into Guiness World Records for having the highest number of lenses on a camera till date where each lens was equally functional like the other.

Yojiro Ishino and his students invented the camera to exercise better researches on the structure of flames they were studying. In short, the camera was designed to photograph the flames from different angles using these many lenses.

Click it : World’s First 3D Camera With 158 Lenses

This multi lens 3D camera can also be used to create realistic computer-generated graphics of the flames in 3D. However, the research goal, as they say, it “to find more efficient ways of burning fuel for engines.”

The arc-shaped camera is 1.5 feet across diameter and 2.8″ tall and required 6 months of exhaustive work to take the form of an invention. Reportedly, the team bought 88 lenses for the cause, but only 158 lenses were used for the 3D camera where each lens costed US$2.24 or 200Yen.

Well, we don’t have any revelations to make about its digital interfaces or the click buttons, lens shutters or about its commercial availability, yet, only if the dynamic team that invented it had some plans to commercialize it, but we’ll let you know as we acknowledge.

I came across something neat yesterday and thought it’s worth writing about. Leaf has launched a new series of medium format camera and camera backs. The series is Leaf AFi-II 6, 7 and 10 digital camera systems and the Leaf Aptus-II 6, 7 and 10 digital camera backs.

Just in case you don’t know what a medium format camera is, wikipedia is there to help:

In digital photography, medium format refers either to cameras adapted from medium format film photography uses, or to cameras making use of sensors larger than that of a 35
