Flurry offers a widely adapted mobile analytics solutions. Company claims 80% of the applications running on Smartphones have Flurry tracking their performance. This puts Flurry in a good position to track and analyze each smartphones popularity and progress in the market.

Nexus One is known to be the most advanced android phone till date (it’s a reasonable argument that HTC Desire is a better handset as it is mostly based on Nexus One’s improvements.) and coming from Google, it had the “iPhone Killer” tag attached to it. Nexus One was expected to do a lot better than all the other Android phones because of its initial hype and the fact that it was Google’s first handset launch.

Flurry recently released data which showed Nexus One sold 135,000 handsets as oppose to 1 million Generation One iPhone’s sold in the same period after its launch, i.e. 74 Days. Why 74 Days you may ask! Flurry picked 74 days as the number because that’s how long it took Apple to sell 1 million iPhones after its first launch which has now become the benchmark.

These numbers also include a few thousand free phones that were given to Googlers around the world as part of the Dog food drive. Though it might not be a significant number, it does have an effect when a company ends up selling 135,000 phones only.

Though it might not sound like a fair comparison between Nexus One and iPad as one is a mobile phone and the other, so called “Tablet”, day 1 pre-order sales of iPad only goes to show the brand value and product popularity Apple enjoys in consumer electronic market.

On the other hand, Motorola’s Droid surprised everyone with its sale of 1.05 million phones in the same time. Flurry points the 3 possible reasons as to how Motorola managed to beat Apple to its initial sales numbers.

Consumer Perseption & Demand

Relative Subscriber Base: Verizon has a considerable larger user base than compared to AT&T

Holiday Season Sales: The other two phones from Apple and Google were not launched around the holiday season nor did the 74 day period cover the holiday season, only Motorola’s Droid did.

This is just the beginning of the Mobile wars between the tech giants. Next time flurry comes out with a similar graph I am sure we will have Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 7 as one of the contenders.

An endlessly expanding plethora of iphone applications is amassing onto the web just like the cosmic dust to the earth. I’m a big time fan of countless iPhone applications, or at least most of them, seriously.

Getting a favorite application for your Apple iPhone should not necessarily sting your pockets or force you to dole out that treasured dollars from your wallet. There are other interesting ways too. We are not talking about any sleazy ones; but then, we are talking about the legal and most importantly, FREE iphone applications.

Wondering how? Here is how to get paid Apple iPhone applications for free and choose from numerous best iPhone apps.

To get free iphone apps, you will need to write the review for any of the iphone applications you are desiring to pocket in for the Fuelmyapp site. If they like it, the application is yours for free, of course not before fulfilling the terms and conditions imposed.

FuelMyApp : Choose from Best iPhone Apps

Why the application is made freely available? Simple. You write an iPhone application review for the website and they will return the favor giving you the application you’ve reviewed absolutely FREE. A sort of barter system.

This should also help the application developers to get quick reviews of the applications that have just been launched or are awaiting reviews.

Here is how to get paid iphone applications for free –

Step 1 : Visit the FuelMyApp site (Click here to go.)

Step 2 : Choose a premium application and report your review.

Step 3 : Done. You will be allowed to download the otherwise paid iPhone application absolutely free (conditionally).

Note :

1. If you are an iPhone owner, you will need your App Store nickname and Paypal address to get started.

2. If you are an iPhone Application Developer, just register with Fuelmyapp and you are ready to go.

However, there are certain terms and conditions that should be met. For instance, you are required to pay the application price to Fuelmyapp.com before you run into the application of your choice.

Once you submit your honest review of the application you have chosen, the community should refund the amount to your account, provided the review is justified according to the developers and the website community and more importantly if they approve of it.

Click here to visit the FuelMyApp site for further details.

The MMS support.

Although, Apple made attempts to imbibe it long time ago, perhaps, it was the carrier support and a few minor clitches that prevented it from going live. But, realizing the demand and the dire need of MMS, Apple, as promised, has eventually rolled out a new update to the Apple iPhone OS 3.1 which activates the iPhone MMS.

Even before the update was made available for public downloads, “Wireless carrier AT&T began sending out text messages this week letting iPhone users know that multimedia messaging capabilities will be available on Friday, Sept. 25” reported Apple Insider.

To get MMS support on your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G S, just connect your iPhone to iTunes and download the update. But make sure that your carrier version reads “AT&T 5.5″ and then begin your update. Maybe, you will need to restart your iPhone for the MMS thing to work.

The update is supposed to stimulate the MMS support in to iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS only, while the original iPhone users are deprived of the feature. So, the privileged iPhone users will now be able to “send and receive photos, contacts, audio files and locations with the Messages app,” through the AT&T carrier.

Charge your iPhone or iPod under the sky! Apple iPhone owners now have a legitimate solution to wipe off frustrations about their draining battery charge.

Many iPhone users, especially those who explore the internet capabilities of the iPhone or rely on it for round-the-clock entertainment fear every second of the rapidly melting battery backup, which is quite a universally accepted belief.

<!--more--

>Naturally, you would grope for a near by power socket to refresh your device’s battery level but what would you do in an odd situation? Just switch to green power, Solar Energy, we mean. All you need is a portable solar charger for your device.

Novothink has launched a solar charger for iPhone which is the first and the only to be officially approved by Apple yet. Novolink Surge Solar Charger (as it is named) can be dressed over your iPhone or iPod Touch to give an elegant look while the solar panel on the back of the charger absorbs solar energy to power your device by providing charging supplements from the integrated 3.7V Li-on battery of the charger.

Featured: Novothink Solar Charger

In case, the Sun is playing hide and seek with you, just connect the Apple solar charger to the USB on your PC or laptop and it begins to charge your iPhone or iPod Touch instantly.

The LED indicators on the top hint you about the battery level. A Novocord is also included with the pack if you want to hang in by the windows, fasten it on your backpack or wear it around your wrist.

Novothink Solar Charger for iPhone is not the first of its kind, but definitely its the only one that Steve Jobs approved for your Apple babies and is available in some nine decent colors to pick.

Although we would not recommend you to buy any one of the following surrogates, we’d still like to keep you informed about the less privileged ones. Take a look.

1. iTablet’s Solio Charger for iPhone which is available at $79.95 (Pictured Below).

2. Free loader iPhone Charger: This is one good piece that can charge any other portable electronic devices, even your PSPs or iPods or other branded mobile phones.

Featured: Free Loader Solar Charger

3. PowCell by MotionTouch: This is yet another iPhone Solar Charger which lets you charge your iPhone on the go. It not only charges your iPod or iPhone but also charges a built in battery under its hood which can be used in case of a power gap.

Featured : Powcell iPod Solar Charger (works with Blackberry too)

Its PowCell an iPhone charger that has got both style and substance (sadly, not endorsed by Apple) but it is yet to get tags on pricing and availability (Pictured above).

[Note: Numbered above (1-3) are solar chargers compatible with iPhone but not officially approved by Apple]

As of now, Novothink has launced the iPod Touch charger for iPod Touch 2G only. Siblings for Apple iPhone 3G and 3GS will be rolled out in November, hopefully and are expected to cost around $70.

If you are a travelling nerd or a busy geek, the iPhone Solar Charger should be the certain choice for alternative charging. So, the next time you will not have to quit a game out of fear of running out of battery before you are back to the den for a recharge.

Go ahead! Play. Explore.

Even before we could elaborate to you concretely about the Apple iTouch Tablet, another interesting word about Apple’s next would-be device has surfaced. Well, for now, without any official announcements, it is better to term it a rumor, say, just any rumor.

The iPod Touch looks incomplete, never though, did I think about this earlier. What’s been missing is a camera. Rumors suggest that Apple, by divine interference, has accepted to answer the prayers. Possibly, the next gen iPod Touch will flaunt a camera on its back, just like the iPhone does. Maybe, a 2MP or so to start with.

Besides listening to that captivating music from your library or watching your favorite movies and videos, you will also be able capture images and record the beautiful moments of your life that you’d love to revisit in a video. However, even if they include a camera, we cannot be sure if it’ll have video recording capability.

If Apple were to introduce a camera into the next generation iPod Touch, it would make the divide between iPhone and iPod much lighter, because the primary aspect where the iPod Touch would differ from an iPhone would be carrier connectivity.

Rumored iPod Touch 3G : First Take By Covinoandrich Blog

If these rumors were to be true, Apple will release the next generation iPod, the iPod Touch 3G at a media event in September (that’s when Apple does it always). This would be another milestone in Apple’s history, an iPod with a camera (sounds interesting, right?).

There are rumors that even the iPod Nano would flaunt a built in camera.A few geek nerds, have even put up some casings for iPod Touch 3G. They look pretty old for the next gen ipod, though. Check out the testimonial below.

Featured : iPod Touch 3G Casing [ Courtesy : Cellphonesforum.net ]

There are probable chances that the next generation iPod Touch will also have microphone that will swerve its existence from an entertainment-centric device to more practical and communicating device, if only Apple were to bless it with Wi-Fi connecivity. It may also have voice control, just like its bigger sibling, the iphone 3GS.

Engadget has put up pictures of so called (leaked pictures) Apple iTouch Tablet which is expected to be available not before 2010 for some $800-$1000 like we mentioned in our recent post on Apple Tablet PC.

Reportedly Leaked : Apple iTouch Tablet

If you’ve been waiting for the next gen iPod, a little more patience will do no harm. We’ll keep you updated. Should you feel to justify them, feel free to pen down a comment, on anything we missed.

Meanwhile, we’ll keep counting on the rumors and wait to number how many of them see the day of light in real. You know what that means.

After the recent astronomical success of its most acclaimed device, the iPhone, Apple is planning to release its next device soon. So what’s the hype about – A netbook type from Apple or an Internet Media Tablet?

There are a bunch of big brands offering netbooks at affordable prices today. Netbook is actually a UMPC (Ultra-Mobile PC) that has literally taken over the world of mobile computing devices for its great degree of portability and ease of use.

To surprise the makers of the netbooks and to be a part of the incessant outburst of technology in portable computing gadgets, Apple is getting ready to battle the front. Everything is getting mobile and portable and not surprisingly everyone loves the change. In short, life is getting easier, simpler and interesting each day.

Okay. Here is the pulp. We are awaiting a netbook type device from Apple, hopefully by the end of this year and Apple seems to be cognizant about it. Well this is going to be mostly similar to Archos 9 that we reviewed recently. It will most likely be called an Apple iTouch Tablet.

Yes, you got it right, the ‘touch’ in the iTouch stands for touchscreen. Though there are no rigid sources to confirm technical specs, but Piper Jaffray senior analyst Gene Munster foresees the following possibilites.

The Apple iTouch tablet will have a 9.7” screen area with full screen touch functionality, a standard audio jack as it traditionally appears on the iPod, iPhone and almost all the Apple devices, a full screen QWERTY keyboard (most likely to appear) and will be powerpacked with surfeit memory and storage capacities.

The giant iPod Touch will run on a version of iPhone OS which will be exclusively tailored for Apple Tablet PC. It is likely to support most of the 70,000 applications available on the Apple Store. In addition to these, new applications will also be made available for working on that big screen.

A camera on its face will enable video chatting and GPS for navigation, are presumably other interesting features. The device will have Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth support, a 3G cellular modem channeled either through AT&T or Verzion wireless.

The primary purpose of the Apple netbook would be to provide Websurfing, email and digital media in an ultra portable fashion. It will battle other netbooks in the market without being a netbook. Now, that’s the Man in the mask.

Is the so called Apple Netbook going to be just a giant iPod Touch? Or will it sweep away the rest with a blow. Only time can tell. On the other end, Apple is busy keeping sales track record of the Apple TV which is obvious from this statement, “While at first glance this may appear to address a niche market, we believe the addressable market is larger than that of the Apple TV, of which Apple sold about 1.2m in its first year.”

The slim, suave and enticing design of the Apple netbook must certainly impress you, not to mention it’s the one solid reason among others why people opt for Apple devices sometimes. And for the same reason, Apple has estimated the sale of about 2 million units by 2010 and each priced at $600 will generate a revenue of $1.2b dollars for Apple.

Is this the beginning to the end of the Macbook era or would it make the other multimedia internet devices sweep the dust Only time will tell. Apple tablet will be much more than a lifestyle product for the presbyopic generation.

We are not receiving any extra-terrestrial transmissions about the price of the product, so will let you know, once Apple makes an official announcement.

Another item for my Apple gallery!

You have heard a lot about all the good things the Apple iPhone does but not many are aware of the bugs in the iPhone. Some time ago, an iPhone owner in Texas experienced a serious problem with his iPhone and reported it to the GeekSquad Store.

The Safari browser would not close at any cost. It was acually eating up the memory in the iPhone and ultimately forced it to crash down. When asked, Apple presumptively said it would not occur unless the iPhone was jail broken.

In a crave to enrich the applications suite on the iPhone, many users had their iPhone jail broken, well it does enough good but more than it, it does the evil. Jail breaking your iPhone opens a security hole that hackers can exploit to take control over your iPhone wirelessly and effortlessly.

This means that the iPhone users have something new to worry about besides their AT&T bills, bad coverage, and slow 3G speeds. It also creates business possibilities for the antivirus companies, the company who comes up with the first Antivirus for iPhone is likely to win. Do you really need a iPhone Anti-virus? It’s hard to say at this point but if a company comes up with a Antivirus for iPhone they will scare the users to death if they don’t get one.

The first iPod virus named Podloso was discovered by Kaspersky Labs that infected the iPods running iPod Linux, a very few of the majority. And what different is the iPhone from the iPod? Sooner or later, we were expecting this sort of chalk to infect the iPhone and today, the day has come.

It’s now the iPhone SMS Virus or iPhone Virus. It’s not really a virus, it’s a bug that was discovered by Charles Miller and Collin Mulliner, two researchers at BlackHat Cybersecurity some six weeks ago.

When the first time, the bug was discovered, it was only meant to crash the iPhone, now it has outgrown the possibilities and it can take over virtually any iPhone with just a simple SMS. So beware!

How do you identify the infection? Not a big deal. Some fine day if you receive a text message with a square character, you must immediately turn off your iPhone or just switch to airplane mode. That’s only how you can resist infection.

The virus can spread to any iPhone, you don’t even need to click a link or so but only if one of the infected phones has got your contact no in it, then you are done. Reports reveal that it is a consequence of the “serious memory corruption bug” that occurs due to the way the iPhone handles messages.

Latest Update: ‘i’ got Company!

When the iPhone bugs or so called iPhone virus was first reported, F-Secure, a security research organization said:

“Hopefully this serves as a warning for those who have opened their iPhones using a security hole in the system and then installing unverified software without a second thought to what they are doing.”

Once your iPhone virus is infects the phone, the hacker is at liberty to take over all the functionalities of your iPhone., from making a call to browsing the web, from accessing the camera to corrupting your applications, and more harmfully, forwarding this virus to other iPhone user. Cnet also termed jailbreaking posed a threat to national security.

“This is serious. The only thing you can do to prevent it is turn off your phone,” said cybersecurity researcher Charles Miller. “Someone could pretty quickly take over every iPhone in the world with this.”

Even if antivirus security organizations decide to confront the iPhone virus, the biggest hurdle will be the inefficiency of the iphone to run the applications in the background. JR Smith, CEO of AVG said “We can’t add a layer of protection on to the iPhone today, so that’s a lot of the conversation that we’re having with Apple.”

In the league: i Like It!

McAfee which has been providing security solutions to Mac for sometime, said “We are working on a much more comprehensive suite for the Apple family.” Because the big deal is providing real time protection from viruses and not actually the antivirus.

More iPhone viruses are likely to emerge as people can’t resist cracking the iPhones and the hackers wouldn’t leave any chance to exploit the wicked possibilities and make the iPhone Original, iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3G S vulnerable to this attack.

We are expecting a bug fix for this from Apple in its final OS 3.1 release, however Apple has been numb over the issue for all this while, even though the SMS Virus bug was brought to their knowledge about 6 weeks ago.

Time to taste the soup…..’cause ” . . . our pleasures in this world are always to be paid for . . . ” and it implies to iPhone users as well.

Update – 31st July: Apple just confirmed the SMS exploit and also released an update to patch the exploit. To get the latest update, plug your iPhone into your computer, launch iTunes and click on “Check for Updates” and install the new update.

Apple has been ruling the roost of the mobile phone market for the king-crowned iPhone, almost two years until Palm introduced its iPhone killer, Pre to give Apple a jerk, and it did really trouble Apple for a while.

The Palm Pre was artfully designed to sync with the iTunes, probably because Palm was intelligent enough to grope for a loop hole in the iTunes and thus suggested Apple a strong reason to hoick it.

Apple has stirred antagonism as a response to Palm by disabling iTunes support for Palm Pre. The iTunes update (iTunes 8.2.1) “addresses an issue with verification of Apple devices” which means any devices “falsely pretending to be iPods” will no longer have access to the iTunes music store and syncing, confirmed Apple Spokeswoman Natalie Kerris.

Apple has statements that cement this audacious move, at least when they say that the update “provides a number of important bug fixes”, and thus disables non-Apple devices to sync with iTunes where Apple pronounced this as a part of the bug fixes.

Not just Palm Pre owners will suffer the blow, but also those who have been using third party devices and have enjoyed the priviliges to flirt with iTunes will now have to dig their own way out if they want the enormous music collections on their multimedia devices.

We would always suggest you to live with the most contemporary version of any software and keep updating it. But, if you are a Palm Pre owner and would love to still sync your Pre with the iTunes, just don’t go by the rule. Stick to the current version of the iTunes that allows you to sync your Palm Pre with iTunes or precisely said do not update your iTunes Software for now.

Palm suggests its now baffled and dumb struck Pre owners to add music to the Pre using the traditional drag and drop technique via USB or go for any third party apps that should closely parallel iTunes in this regard.

An official statement from Palm in this regard reads -

“Palm’s media sync works with iTunes 8.2. If Apple chooses to disable media sync in iTunes, it will be a direct blow to their users who will be deprived of a seamless synchronization experience. However, people will have options. They can stay with the iTunes version that works to sync their music on their Pre, they can transfer the music via USB, and there are other third-party applications we can consider.”

Palm may also come with an update to counter Apple’s move but whatever Palm should ever do to re-allow syncing with iTunes, Apple will always lead the front. Reason? What is obvious is Apple owns the rights and iTunes is its baby and it would always be Apple iTunes not Palm’s.

The new iPhone 3.1 OS Beta release is meant for developers only so before you plug in your device to steal an update, think twice.

Apple has released the beta version of the iPhone 3.1 OS, perhaps to justify the fine-spun debate where some believe the hardware is guilty for the bugs and some throw the blame on the iPhone OS 3.0.

Apple iPhone 3.1 OS is available for all versions of iPhone and iPod touch, while the SDK 3.1 is available in versions compatible with leopard and snow leopard.

Before we go anyfurther to discuss the changes, Click here to register with Apple’s developer program and download iPhone 3.1 OS Beta. (Torrent Links available at the end of the article)

Let’s take a look at some of the improvements in the new iPhone OS – The Apple iPhone 3.1 OS (Beta).

When you update to the new OS, you will be able to decide on carrier preference, though it is not for AT&T customers. The MMS feature (which is optional) has expanded functionality where you can choose the size and quality of the picture for MMS video.

Improvements in the OS should also allow you to directly copy and paste in the address book without having to go through the regular edit procedure (you can even copy straight from the phone keypad).

If you accidentally sent a message to an undesired contact, you can cancel the message immediately while it is being sent and then say Phew! or just thank your iPhone.

Like to save a video from your email that you just sent? Well, this should now be possible with the iPhone 3.1 OS where users can just go the sent mail (where the video was attached) and save it into a camera roll.

The new OS actually lets you “edit” the recorded videos and retain the original ones unlike the “trim” feature which trimmed a selection portion of the video and overwrites the original one.

Most of you must feel great about the voice control feature of the iPhone where you can just press the button, speak into the phone and it does things what you have asked for. Now, you can use the same powerful Voice Control feature over Bluetooth.

The iPhone 3.1 OS is expected to fix the bug with Application icons where if an application was deleted, and a new application was installed, the new application would take the icon of the trashed one from its place.

This should sound unpleasant to you but the fact is that iPhone 3.1 OS update is more likely to disable hacks for tethering your iPhone.

I am not sure whether to expect a solution from Apple against the universally popular overheating issue of the iPhone in this update which is perhaps the most turbulent bug but remains unanswered for now, atleast until Apple makes an official announcement pertaining to it.

Is this Apple’s strategic move to counter the rapidly growing popularity of the Palm Pre? Will the new iPhone 3.1 OS will just be a bug-fix to the existing iPhone OS or rule over to counter the convictions against it? Let’s wait and watch until Apple officially announces more about the improvements!!

Now that the iPhone 3.1 OS Beta (for devs) is already released, it will not be too long from now when Apple pushes it to your iPhone/iPod as a public release, maybe it will take around 2 months or so for it.

Meanwhile, you can make a list of bugs you have experienced in real on your iPhone till date or post a comment below.
