The application, christened as ‘Snapit’, turns your Android Phone into an image scanner. Once you have installed the application on your Android phone, just point to the text or image you want to scan and click it.

If you have clicked an entire magazine page, the application allows you to focus certain portions of the captured image and then crop the text passage or the image you required (using a red square).

If the image has text in it, just like a restaurant menu or a magazine cover, use the ‘a’ icon in Snapit to convert it into editable text, which can also be looked up on the web for relevant translations at a click.

We won’t hesitate in calling it a ‘Webstation’ if it included a camera too for video call support, it would have been an added advantage to the web users. Although, the size of the product in contrast to its versatility is worth appreciating.

The Google Android 1.6 is now official. A successor release to Android 1.5 (also known as the Cupcake), the Google Android 1.6 update has been released and it certainly promises to bring more functionality and explorable dimensions than ever to Android based mobile devices.

Android 1.6 not only allows users to overstep the confined boundaries of fixed display resolutions but also includes support for QVGA and WVGA display types. Developers can also specify the type of screen they intend to use.

Besides the screen size and resolution factor, there are a lot of other improvements too. Take the inclusion of CDMA support for instance, which is not less than a premonition to us that more number of mobile phones will be running the Google Android OS in the future.

Ranking of each of these applications will depend on the ratings, commenting and other “anonymous” statistics gathered by Google (I am sure SEO and Spammers have made a note of it and have built at least one applications or a technique to promote android application on Android Market).

Android Market place has a developer registration in place which will cost each of the developers $25. Once registered, developers can upload their applications without any approval. Starting Q1 developers can put their apps up for sale out of which 30% will go to carriers and billing settlement fees and the rest goes to the developers.

Currently there are 50 applications available on Android Market, including my all-time favorite Pac-man and Shazam and it goes without saying that we are about to see some really cool apps in the future.

Android is certainly #1 choice of the developers whose applications have been rejected by Apples App Store or developers who are not very happy with the restrictions on the application development on iPhone.

This could prove one of the biggest reasons of not only developers moving on to Android but strive to make Android a better choice.
