What is more disheartening is that the fact that the number of this plugin’s users are going up by the day. Thought few blogs have come up with a way to detect the ad blocking technology and blocking users from viewing their content or asking them to pay a yearly subscription. All time downloads are inching closer to 30 Million and the weekly figure is around 370,000.

I have to admit, this is the best solution for people who want to block ads on the pages they visit. The popularity of the plug-in can be gauged by the number of total and weekly downloads.

It’s fairly easy to use, first time you restart the browser after the installation, all you’ve got to do is subscribe to one of the existing filter list. That’s all; you just got rid of 99% of the ads on the internet.

This is causing great harm to the blogosphere as bloggers only source of revenue could be advertisements, and it’s totally reasonable to have ads as lot of efforts are put into running a blog/site including the infrastructure cost.

Though I like this plug-in which helps me block in-your-face ads/banners, I think it’s biased because it does not have an easy way of adding exceptions.

For example if you want to add tnerd.com to an exception list so that the ads show up on tnerd.com. Well, there is not easier way to do this.

It’s a negative approach to a great solution for sites/blogs that cross the lines to make some dollars. There is a page which generates exception code for the sites you mention in the text box. Why not include this option in the tool more visibly, EVIL!

After all services like Adsense, etc.. show you the most relevant ads with the content which helps you find stuff which you might not have otherwise. So, it’s not all bad!

Click here to download the plugin, however, be fair to the bloggers who put in a lot of effort to bring you the latest without asking a penny for it.
