An endlessly expanding plethora of iphone applications is amassing onto the web just like the cosmic dust to the earth. I’m a big time fan of countless iPhone applications, or at least most of them, seriously.

Getting a favorite application for your Apple iPhone should not necessarily sting your pockets or force you to dole out that treasured dollars from your wallet. There are other interesting ways too. We are not talking about any sleazy ones; but then, we are talking about the legal and most importantly, FREE iphone applications.

Wondering how? Here is how to get paid Apple iPhone applications for free and choose from numerous best iPhone apps.

To get free iphone apps, you will need to write the review for any of the iphone applications you are desiring to pocket in for the Fuelmyapp site. If they like it, the application is yours for free, of course not before fulfilling the terms and conditions imposed.

FuelMyApp : Choose from Best iPhone Apps

Why the application is made freely available? Simple. You write an iPhone application review for the website and they will return the favor giving you the application you’ve reviewed absolutely FREE. A sort of barter system.

This should also help the application developers to get quick reviews of the applications that have just been launched or are awaiting reviews.

Here is how to get paid iphone applications for free –

Step 1 : Visit the FuelMyApp site (Click here to go.)

Step 2 : Choose a premium application and report your review.

Step 3 : Done. You will be allowed to download the otherwise paid iPhone application absolutely free (conditionally).

Note :

1. If you are an iPhone owner, you will need your App Store nickname and Paypal address to get started.

2. If you are an iPhone Application Developer, just register with Fuelmyapp and you are ready to go.

However, there are certain terms and conditions that should be met. For instance, you are required to pay the application price to Fuelmyapp.com before you run into the application of your choice.

Once you submit your honest review of the application you have chosen, the community should refund the amount to your account, provided the review is justified according to the developers and the website community and more importantly if they approve of it.

Click here to visit the FuelMyApp site for further details.

Like all other gadgets, your iPhone is also under the constant risk of being stolen. Given the hefty price tag your iPhone, and the amount of personal data that it stores, it is absolute necessary for all iPhone users to protect their phone.

Nobody can keep a thief from stealing the device from your pockets, but there are several important steps which can be done so as to increase your chances of getting the iPhone back.

1. Turn On Passcode Lock

Most people are not careful enough to implement a passcode lock on their iPhones. Even though the passcode lock won’t prevent anyone from snatching your phone, but will keep your private information private. You can enable it by the following steps.

Select “Settings”.

Click “General”.

Go to “Passcode”.

Now enter a 4 digit password.

You should always remember it.

2. Auto-Lock

iPhone comes with an auto-lock option, which automatically locks your phone after a specified period of time, and it requires the 4 digit passcode to unlock it. The auto-lock must be set on either one or two minutes to ensure that minimum time is spent on your unlocked iPhone.

3. Record Your iPhone’s IMEI Number and Serial Number

iPhone’s has a fifteen digit International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number which is used by wireless carriers to identify your phone. This can be noted on the back of your iPhone along with your FCC ID and serial number. These are important while reporting a stolen or lost device.

4. SIM PIN

You should assign a PIN to your SIM card, so it can’t be used in any other phones without the PIN. It should be entered when you turn the iPhone on, or when you replace the SIM card.

Select “Settings”.

Choose “Phone”.

Now turn on “SIM PIN”.

You will be prompted to enter the current PIN. You must enter the default PIN number.

After giving the default value, you can change the code according to your liking.

5. Frequently Back Up Your iPhone

You should back up your device which is crucial in all situations. Even if you lose your phone, or if you are victim of a theft, or if you simply have a buggy iPhone which crash suddenly one day, backing up your iPhone insure the safety of your data.

6. Use some security software.

The usage of some kind of security software in iPhone helps to regain the phone in case of a theft or it will reduce the loss of valuable data in the phone. Some typical examples are

GadgetTrak- It will help to find out the burglar by sending you his precise location.

FindMe- FindMe automatically updates the location of your iPhone on Twitter.

PhoneScream- PhoneScream will play a very loud siren and will vibrate rigorously when any unauthorized user moves the phone.

Motion Alarm- Motion Alarm is a grown up version of PhoneScream which has more added features in it.

7. Steps to be done in case a phone is lost.

Notify the operator so they can deactivate the wireless account so that thief can’t use your mobile account.

Immediately file a police report which will reduce the further complications due to the misuse of the phone.

Notify your important contacts. You should inform the people whom you contact frequently that it’s not you who is calling or texting them through your old number.

You should change all your passwords immediately.

These steps will not ensure that your iPhone is never stolen but it will almost ensure that the phone is trackble at least for a while or the data is protected in case the phone falls into the wrong hands.

Windows 7 is the latest from Microsoft’s incredibly successful stable of operating systems, barring the aberration called Windows Vista. Vista was a failure from every side, be it marketing or functionality; everything except maybe the way it looks and some minute security enhancements, which frankly, did not necessitate the creation of a new OS.

Microsoft tried every trick in and out of the book to boost Vista sales but to no avail.Things were so bad that the market preferred to continue using the immensely popular XP rather than shell out a lot of money for an upgrade that was not worth it.

Various aspects contributed to Vista’s failure; the outrageous amount of code, its resource hogging nature, lack of sufficient drivers etc were just some of them. Windows 7 comes as a successor to Vista and Microsoft promises that it will not repeat the same mistakes that Vista did.

Users who want to check out the new OS can download the beta version and see for themselves. One way to install Windows 7 is to format your hard disk and remove your existing OS and install the new one.

But there are other options for those who do not want to stop using their current operating system. One such option is that you can create a partition on your hard drive and install windows 7 on this partition and thus create the option of booting from either operating system.

Now, creating a formatted partition is a simple affair in Vista. Select the start button and type “diskmgmt.msc” into the “search” option. This will lead to the opening of a “disk management” window. The window provides you with information on the disk drives in the computer.

Right-click on the appropriate disk and select “shrink volume”. Windows 7 has a recommended hard disk size of at least 16GB, but the actual requirement would be much higher. So select the maximum possible value for shrinking the volume that you can afford. After completing this, we can observe that the volume by which you shrunk the disk is available as a separate partition.

Name this partition as you wish by right-clicking on it and selecting the appropriate option. After this has been done, right- click on the newly created volume yet again. Select the “new simple volume” option and select the appropriate settings for the new partition (specifying volume capacity- it should be the entire volume, formatting the new volume with NTFS file system option etc).

Creating a new partition in machines that use XP is problematic, unless you were intelligent enough to foresee the release of a new operating system and wanted to be prepared for it, at the time of installation of XP. We can create partitions at the time of XP’s installation but would have to resort to third party software to create one after the installation.

There are many such softwares available such as Partition Magic and Gparted, and creating a new partition using this software is similar to the process described before for vista.. One can download the ISO of the Gparted software, burn it into a disc and then install it from there. Make sure that the new partition created is a ‘primary’ partition (an option that has to be selected when creating the partition using Gparted or Partition Magic).

Our next step in the process would be the download of the beta version of windows 7. Click here to initiate download and burn the downloaded ISO into a dvd.

After this, insert the dvd into your drive, boot from the disk and begin installation of Windows 7 following the simple installation wizard instructions.

Please note that when asked to select the type of installation, you select the “custom(advanced)” option and select the partition created by you earlier for installation. Selecting the wrong partition would lead to Windows 7 being installed OVER your existing Vista or XP OS and subsequent loss of data.

The rest of the installation procedure is pretty simple and similar to that of XP and Vista. By the end of it, we will be able to observe a boot screen where you can select either Windows 7 or your already existing XP or Vista OS. Let us hope that the final product is as good as Microsoft claims it to be.

Imagine trying to control another desktop while you are comfortably sitting in front of your desktop. There is no magic involved here thanks to Remote desktop mode. This mode helps to control the entire contents of one or more desktops.

The name suitably describes the function. However ensure before you even start enabling this mode that you have an excellent firewall which is configured correctly. Still you might face some security problems.

First step you need to do is to install a VNC client on your system. Download and install TightVNC for Linux from here. After completing the installation, launch the TightVNC Viewer and enter the IP address (or host name) of the remote system in the resulting Connection details dialog and press OK.

If a password is required then enter the same. The screen should load and display the remote desktop. Click on the System and then Preferences and then Remote Desktop on the Gnome top menu. This window will be displayed.

To enable the remote desktop mode you need to check the first two boxes under the sharing section.

Under the security section if you select the “Ask you for confirmation” code, then your presence in front of the computer is compulsory in order to allow another person to access your desktop.

If that is not what you want then un-check the box. This is usually done when one is trying to remotely access one of his own computers. For security reasons the second check box should always be checked, and ensure that you enter a secure password. Each time you try to log on you will be prompted for this password.

The following steps help to connect from an Ubuntu Machine:-

Open your terminal. To do so navigate through Applications—>Accessories—>Terminal and then enter the following command: vncviewer full-screen 192.168.2.23:0.

The following message will be displayed prompting for the password. Enter the password. When you see the VNC authentication succeeded message below, you know that everything has gone right.

VNC Viewer version 3.3.7 – built Jul 4 2006 10:04:48 Copyright (C) 2002-2003 RealVNC Ltd. Copyright (C) 1994-2000 AT&T Laboratories Cambridge. See http://www.realvnc.com for information on VNC. VNC server supports protocol version 3.7 (viewer 3.3) Password: VNC authentication succeeded.

If you want to quit VNC Viewer, press ‘F8′ and select Quit viewer.

I hope the steps were easy to understand and follow. Ubuntu is not the tough is it!!

First in the modern generation of touchscreen phones, the iphone is the indisputable leader of the clan and in all probability, will continue enjoying that status for a long time to come.

Every aspect of the phone has sparked mini-revolutions in itself; the touchscreen, the virtual keyboard, the stunning design, so on and so forth.

The latest in the iphone range, the iphone 3GS sports a new operating system and a host of other features that was unseen in the first generation iphone and iphone 3G.

The original iphone had a battery that was able to provide 8 hours in talk-time. With a full battery, it could play videos for approximately 7 hours and music for 24 hours. It also had a standby time of 250 hours.

With the iphone 3GS, the figure goes up to 12, 10, 30 and 300 hours for talk-time, video, music and standby respectively (these figures are obtained when the 3G feature is turned off. The figures would go down when 3G is turned on.). This article deals with the subject of making your iphone’s battery charge last a long time and also making your iphone battery last longer.

The iphone uses a dry lithium-ion battery that is rechargeable. If you come across any problem concerning battery life such as the battery getting drained quickly, do not try to solve the problem yourself by tinkering with it as this could void the phone’s warranty.

As the first step towards ensuring a longer battery life, make it a point that your phone is charged exactly for the amount of time prescribed by Apple; not more not less. This is because under/over charging can significantly dent the performance of the battery.

Try to use the charger that has been bundled along with the phone and none other as the use of other chargers too can diminish battery life on the long run.

Another important point to note is to keep the phone as much as possible, in room temperature and not expose it to intense heat by way of leaving it in sunlight. When charging the phone, do not place it in its casing since that would create a large amount of heat, again leading to damage.

One major drain on the iphone’s battery charge is the use of the 3G feature. Turning off the 3G feature when you are in a non-3G covered area is only sensible. The use of the 3G feature halves the talk-time and reduces browsing time by two hours. Hence,it is better to turn the feature off when you are running low on battery charge.

Another significant cause of lower battery charge in the iPhone is the GPS app. Unless you absolutely need it, it only makes sense to disable the app. Disabling wi-fi when it is not available in the region you are presently in also helps the battery charge last longer.

There are a number of apps that connect with the net and gather data as soon as they are up. Disabling this feature for the apps prevents a faster drop in battery charge. Also, cut down on the usage of apps that drain batteries, such as games etc.

Another method to make charge last longer is to reduce your speaker volume and turning the phone into silent mode; the louder it is, more charge is required. Turning off the EQ feature for music playback also helps charge last longer.

Turning the bluetooth feature off and using the “airplane” mode when you are in areas with very low coverage also helps in the cause of making your battery charge last longer.

These nifty tips will help the battery charge in your iPhone last a little bit longer and ensure your battery serves you long and well.

Chrome since its launch has made a gradual and decent progress in adding new features, fixing bugs and improve performance. Once thing every chrome user is eager to see is the option of installing an extension.

The wait is over; you can now install extensions on Chrome’s latest dev built. The feature is still not included in the browser; users have to add a command line parameter to enable extensions on the latest built. It’s simple, worry not!

Currently there are 3 sample extensions available for installation,

Gmail Checker: Displays a toolstrip that shows how many messages are in your Gmail inbox.

Subscribe in Google Reader: Provides easy access to subscribe to a webpage’s feed in Google Reader.

BuildBot Monitor: Shows the current status of the Chromium Build Bot.

I installed all three of them and they come in pretty handy, at least the first two certainly do!

The following image shows the installed extensions

All set to install the extensions? Alright!

First make sure you have the latest dev built on your machine, get it here.

Next, rightclick on the chrome icon, click on properties and add “–enable-extensions” at the end of the target field and click “Apply”.

Once the parameter is added, start the browser and visit the Sample extension page, here.

I found two more extensions other than the official ones

GreaseMetal Script: This is a GreasMonkey-like script for Firefox which works with Chrome [link]

AdSweep: A popular ad-removing plugin for Chrome [link]

Have fun installing chrome plugins and leave a comment if you find new plugins!

Experts talk about a lot of techniques which help in becoming a great presenter and one of them is being “interactive”. The word interactive take a whole new meaning when a bit of technology is used to make the audience feel that they are a part of the presentation and are very much involved.

SMS2Vote is one of the products offered by SendSteps which helps you conduct live polls by letting you audience vote using their mobile phones during a presentation and show the results on a PowerPoint slide immediately. Ain’t it cool?

The process is very simple. Download and install a Plugin, open PowerPoint, create a Poll using the newly installed plugin and you are all set!
