The five-time Grammy winner was a regular at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace since March 2011before she went on a break to take care of her husband Rene Angelil and her three kids – Rene-Charles (1) and twins Eddy and Nelson (4) at their Las Vegas home. Renee, her mentor and guide since her teenage years (they met in 1980 when she was 12 and he was 38), has been battling throat cancer since 1999 and has relapsed thrice since then.
Dion attributed her return to the stage to her husband saying, “I didn’t want to be here at first, I don’t need it. Don’t get me wrong. I love singing for people, but I have priorities. But my biggest job is to tell my husband, we’re fine. I’ll take care of our kids. You’ll watch us from another spot.”
Dressed in a sparkling silver sequined dress, Celine Dion’s songs on stage seemed to take on a new life and at the end of the show she dedicated her songs to Angelil, watching from their Las Vegas home, saying, “Just enjoy, just enjoy. I love you.” After the show, Dion also took to Twitter to thank her fans.
The singer had cancelled her long-running show and put her career on hold in August 2014 to take care of her husband and children, and this time, it seems, her return was a special request from him. With this, Celine Dion is booked for 40 shows through till January 2016. She will also release an album next year in French and follow it up with an English album release in 2017. In Celine’s words, “My three children and wonderful husband wanted me to be here. I’m not quite sure if I was ready to be here tonight. But we had to commit and say are we doing this or not doing this and we decided together to do this.”
