So far, the only places to buy an Apple Watch were at the Apple Store, online or at a luxury goods outlet; now however, the company has announced that Apple Watch will be available initially at more than 100 Best Buy stores from August 7, 2015 and then at around 200 stores more before the Christmas shopping season.
The biggest national consumer electronics retail chain, Best Buy seems to be a prime candidate for Apple to popularize its Watch and further sales since its own online and Apple retail stores have seen only limited orders. Jason Bonfig, senior category officer at Best Buy said, “The Apple Watch is an important addition to an emerging product category, and we know our customers want it. We are excited to bring Apple Watch to more consumers, especially with the holidays coming up.” An Apple spokesperson confirmed the news saying, “Customers love Apple Watch, and we are thrilled to begin offering it at Best Buy.”
The Best Buy stores are expected to stock both Apple Watch Sport and 16 models of the Apple Watch – 38 and 42mm versions – along with a variety of straps and relevant accessories like screen shields, stands, and chargers. The gold-cased Apple Watch Edition however, with a starting price of $10,000, will not be available at Best Buy.
Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said, “We’re very bullish on the Watch being one of the key, top holiday gifts and want to have it in more places than we currently have it.” The Watch is currently available in 19 countries and soon expected in three more – Russia, Turkey and New Zealand.
