Though she has been at the centre of attention at earlier MTV Video Music Awards for her crazy antics, 22-year-old Miley Cyrus is back again this year, this time as a host for the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards which will air live on August 30, 2015 at 9 p.m. ET, possibly at the Los Angeles Microsoft Theater.
Miley broke the news on Instagram in her own unique style – by dressing up as a green alien, first with a hood and then without and wearing a sandwich board that read “MTV WON’T LET ME PERFORM” on one side and “SO I’M HOSTING THIS YEAR’S VMA’S” on the other. She is the first host in three years after Kevin Hart in 2012.
Starting with her first VMA in 2008 at the age of 15, it has been a long journey for Miley who, at that time, was nominated for Best New Artist against Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. In 2013 she made the headlines by participating in a risqué dance on stage with Robin Thicke wearing a nude latex outfit and sporting a giant foam finger; the event broke on the internet as ‘Miley Cyrus Twerking.’
Last year however, she made the world go oh! with surprise (a pleasant one) when she offered her acceptance speech for winning Video of the Year for “Wrecking Ball,” to a homeless teen named Jesse Helt who talked about the condition of homeless youth in L.A. Cyrus also established the Miley’s Happy Hippie organization to offer support services to the homeless and others in need.
The nominees for this year’s VMAs will be announced on Tuesday, July 21 at 10 a.m. ET at the Beats 1 “Charts” show on Apple Music, the program will be hosted by Brooke Reece and Travis Mills. The voting will begin at 11 a.m., just after the broadcast. To vote your favourite stars to VMA stardom in various categories, log onto vma.mtv.com.
