If you are one of those ready to throw your phone/tablet against the wall because Instagram either locks you out or does not update your feed, then you’re not the only one.
Instagram has been facing issues with login and many users were either locked out of their accounts or simply unable log in properly. The problem began sometime after 1pm yesterday (Thursday) and was first detected by Downdetector, an online tool that mines information about users facing issues with online or digital tools. Initially there were more than 1000 angry users facing issues with the app, but there are no clear statistics on how many users were affected, however judging by the distressed and frustrated tweets on Twitter, quite a lot apparently!
Though Instagram has acknowledged the problem by posting a status update on Twitter, no explanation about the breakdown of the app was forthcoming; the update simply said that there is an issue and they were working to fix it. They however declined to set a specific time for when the app would be up and running again. Since there is no statement from the company explaining the issue, many are worrying about a privacy breach and additional security issues.
For most users, they were simply logged out of the account and unable to log in again. Others faced an issue where their feeds were not updated or trying to update the feed would result in automatic log out. Most people see this error message when they try to log in after an automatic logout, “Sorry, we couldn’t connect to our login server. Please confirm you have an internet connection and try again in a moment.” Owned by social media giant Facebook, Instagram currently boasts over 300 million users.
