Turing Phone: The ‘Unhackable’ and ‘Unbreakable’ Android Handset

Sounds like science-fiction? Given its composition, software and specs, it could very well be!

The Turing Phone from San Francisco-based Turing Robotic Industries is not only built with an almost unbreakable, stronger-than-steel amorphous ‘liquid metal’ body made from Liquidmorphium which is an alloy of zirconium, copper, aluminium, nickel and silver, but it also comes with end-to-end encryption built into almost of its core apps to keep out third parties and nosy servers.

While the body is waterproof up to a depth of 30ft, even with nano-coating, the protected and securely encrypted communications network inside phone offers the best possible security and also supports cryptocurrency for encrypted and private financial transactions and transfers. The company describes it as a, “protected communications network that is entirely insulated from cyber-threats and privacy intrusion,” which allows people to share data and images without the fear of security breaches and cyber peeping toms.

After knowing these, it is unlikely you will bother about the rest of the specs, but they are nothing to be sniffed at. The device is an Android Lollipop one and comes with a highly sensitive fingerprint sensor which is used to switch on the device. The only thing that might irk is a custom jack instead of a USB port and headphone jack but since it connects via Bluetooth, this can be overlooked.

Here are some of the other specs:

  • 5-inches full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) resolution
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop
  • Liquidmorphium and Gorilla glass body
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 801
  • 3GB RAM
  • 16/32GB expandable up to 64GB/128GB
  • 3,000 mAh
  • 13MP rear and 8MP front camera

According to S.Y.L. Chao, CEO of TRI, “Building trustworthy communications on the mobile internet has been a challenge.  Our vision with the Turing Phone is to help mobile users navigate within a circle of trust. We’re beginning with the smartphone and plan to rapidly extend this technology into robotics and other domains linked to the Internet of Things, where security concerns are a huge impediment to innovation.”

The device can be pre-ordered from July 31 starting from $610 for unlocked version with prices going up to $870 for the 128GB model and will come in three colours and textured models – Pharaoh, Cardinal, and Beowulf (based on the actual epic).
