When Wi-Fi or wireless local area networking first arrived properly in 1991 as WaveLan, they had a very limited customer base. It was not until 1997 that the first version of the 802.11 protocol was released and then updated in 1999, since then, it has had free run as one of the best inventions in these last couple of decades.

Most of us are so used to Wi-Fi, whether it is at home or office, that we cannot imagine life without it! Getting online from laptops, desktops, iPads/tablets, smartphones and even HD TVs is a breeze with a good home network and a decent router.
