The stage is set for a big clash between the two big Khans, Salman and Shah Rukh, as both will battle it out next year, on Eid 2016, on the big screens.
Though Salman has a long tradition of releasing his movies on Eid, Shah Rukh was more of a Diwali launch guy. Next year however, both are set to go head-to-head as they simultaneously release Salman Khan-starrer Sultan and SRK-starrer Raees on the occasion of Eid.
Raees is a Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar action-thriller with Shah Rukh in the lead role as a bootlegger whose ‘business plans’ are busted by the police at every turn. Sultan on the other hand released a June 24 teaser of the Ali Abbas Zafar directed and Aditya Chopra produced film where Salman takes on the role of a 40-year old boxer, Haryana’s tiger, Sultan Ali Khan. The actual shooting for the movie will commence from November this year.
Though the Aditya Chopra and Ali Abbas Zafar from Sultan have yet to provide a comment, Ritesh Sidhwani, director of Raees took to social media to say that the movie’s release date will not be rescheduled, “Most of the principal photography of our film is complete, and we have only 20 days left, which will be done in October. We were always scheduled to release on Eid 2016, and that’s when Raees will release.”
Most industry experts were surprised by the simultaneous launch announcements and feel that business for both will be affected if one of them is not moved. It is exactly as an insider source pointed out, “There’s a remote chance that the two movies will clash. Even Salman and Shah Rukh won’t like that. It would be interesting to see if anyone — or who — blinks first.”
Amir, the third big Khan, however is sticking to his usual Christmastime schedule for his newest venture Dangal, a movie that is loosely based on the renowned pahelwan Mahavir Phogat’s life. The actual shooting will commence in September.
