Sridevi is back, and this time as a drop-dead gorgeous Queen in a brand new Game of Thrones-style Tamil action-adventure film called Puli (Tiger).
After the success of her popular “English Vinglish,” the ever popular and glamourous 51-year-old Sridevi is back in a completely new avatar in a Tamil movie where she plays a princess, not looking a day over 30! Her co-star in this film is the well-known Tamil actor Vijay who acts the part of a blue-eyed leader of a group with unique powers and strength. But it is Sridevi who is turning heads with her regal elegance and style.
The teaser has already gathered over 2.8 million views on YouTube since it was released on Sunday, June 21 and is expected to be an even bigger hit in the box office… if only it is released on time. The movie has seen some unfortunate delays as the release has been set back from July to August. Film maker Shibu Thameens issued a statement to confirm this change of dates, “We finished the first schedule in January and shot all those scenes which required computer graphics. These were then sent to nine studios across the globe in February. Technicians in countries like Denmark, Russia, Ireland, Ukraine and Armenia have been working on the VFX for the last five months. We wrapped up the film in May but they have yet to finish with the special effects. So now instead of July, the film will release towards the end of August.”
Loosely based on similar lines as Russell Crowe’s Gladiator, Puli sees Sridevi dressed in Manish Malhotra originals where her gowns, jewellery and elaborate headgear all weighing around 10-15 kgs are completely unique and made in Indian style. According to reports, the actress spent hours under the hands of her make-up artist before filming each scene. In the words of director Chimbu Deven, “If the call time was 9 am, she would start getting ready from 4 am. It was her idea to get Manish Malhotra to design her look. She even did her action sequences, which included a sword fight, wearing these cumbersome costumes.”
Apart from Sridevi and Vijay, the cast includes, Kannada star Sudeep, Hansika Motwani playing Sridevi’s daughter and Shruti Haasan. Due to the delay, the final release dates are yet to be announced but you can sate your curiosity with the trailer till then.
