Google Unveils 17 New Watch Faces for Android Wear

When Google announced new features for its Android Wear platform in Google I/O 2015 last month, no one really thought they would come up with 17 brand new watch faces!

In a recent announcement, the Mountain View, California-based company revealed a new range of watch faces for its Android Wear which is being released in partnership with 17 global brands like Hello Kitty, Angry Birds, Moomins, Rubiks Cube, Terminator Genisys, etc. All 17 watch faces can be easily downloaded from the Google Play Store. Design-wise, Google decided to work with renowned brands like Cynthia Rowley, Rubik’s, Bang & Olufsen, Rovio Entertainment, Paramount Digital, and Anrealage.

Users will now be able to add their own special touch to the wearable home screen with watch faces like:

  • Moods of Norway
  • Hello Kitty Watch Face
  • Time Will Come
  • Rubik’s Watch Face
  • ANREALAGE Watch Face
  • Angry Birds Aviator Watch Face
  • George Frost Watch Face
  • Terminator Genisys Watch Face
  • Lulu Frost Watch Face
  • Kevin Tong Watch Face
  • TRIWA Watch Face
  • Rowley Wrist wear
  • Bang & Olufsen Watch Face
  • Geox Watch Face
  • Moomins Watch Face
  • MUJI to Relax
  • Gundam RX-78-2 Watch Face

With this, most Android-based smart wearables will be able to run customized third party watch faces which gives Google a leg up over its competitor Apple who’s Apple Watch does not allow customizable watch faces; instead, in the latest update it will allow users to add photos or Apple’s time-lapse imagery as a watch face.

Currently Google’s iconic Android Wear already has around 1500 available watch faces. The first batch arrived in December last year and included the then popular Minions watch face from the movie Despicable Me. Since the new one adds a whole bunch of crazy new faces, now you can change a watch face as easily as you change clothes. Out of 17, only the Anrealage and Gundam watch faces are paid ones, the other 15 are free.
