Sony PlayStation is back with a bang! The company has finally lifted the wraps from their newest version of the PlayStation 4 or PS4 bearing the model number CUH-1200. This new PS4 also comes with a larger storage and is called the ‘Ultimate Player 1TB Edition.’

A lighter (10 per cent lighter) and more energy efficient variant (8 per cent more power efficient), the new console might not be a PlayStation 4 Slim, but it does offer a sleek, light body and a different kind of gaming experience with longer playtime hours and a super-sized storage of 1TB, twice the storage of the previous 500GB model.  It comes with a matte-finished hard drive bay cover instead of the current glossy one, giving it a sporty, casual look. The controller has also been upgraded.

It was in a blog post on Sony PlayStation Europe that first announced the news, “Hi everyone. Today, we’re happy to announce that the 1TB PS4 Ultimate Player Edition launches in select Europe and PAL territories from 15th July. Offering twice the storage of the existing PS4, you’ll be able to download more of the games you love to your PS4, extend your play with greater add-on content and save and share even more of your best gaming highlights. For pricing information, check with your local retailer.”

The new 1TB model comes at a crucial time when more and more gamers are looking for a bigger drive space, like the recently confirmed 1TB Xbox One, to store their latest games.  Given the popularity of their previous consoles, Sony is likely to leverage the low price of components and improved production techniques to increase the storage space without affecting the price. The device has already been registered with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in US so get ready to welcome the ultimate gaming edition.

The Japan-based company has also updated its PlayStation companion app available for download from the iOS and Android app store. The newest update allows users to redeem PSN gift coupon codes without switching on and syncing to the console. The app can also show various comments from viewers on your phone or tablet even as you are streaming from the console.

The newest addition to the PS4 line-up is expected to arrive in black and white variants on July 15 in UK and US, and in Japan, later this month. In US, the white PS4 is supposed to come with the latest game called Destiny. The rest of the world, including India might see it soon after. For now, the device with less than 1TB storage has been priced at $399, the price for the 1TB variant has yet to be revealed.
