Have you seen the new ABCD 2, the sequel to the 2013 smash hit ‘ABCD: Anybody Can dance’? If you haven’t then here’s something to whet your appetite – it holds the record for the highest weekend opening this year!
Smashing all previous box office records, Remo D’Souza’s latest movie, ABCD 2 has become the highest grossing movie in 2015 so far, raking in a massive Rs 46.35 crore just in the first three days since its release on Friday, June 19 beating Akshay Kumar’s 40-crore box office hit ‘Gabbar Is Back’ and even ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ and ‘Piku.’
The movie opened to a massive Rs 14.30 crore on its first day, went up to Rs 14.51 crore on Saturday and finally raked in between Rs 16-17 crore on Sunday – all eyes are on the movie to see if it touches the milestone 100 crore mark. What started out as mixed reviews has snowballed into nation-wide craze and admiration for a much-loved film. Even Trade analyst Taran Adarsh gave a glowing picture of the moolah pouring in!
While the first movie thrust some lesser known dancers and Prabhudheva into the limelight, the sequel banks on a stunning pairing by Varun Dhawan who plays a dancer in the movie and Shraddha Kapoor who stars opposite him. The display of talent by the latest rising stars of Bollywood is hard to ignore and audiences everywhere are making their appreciation known. 28-year-old star Varun Dhawan took to Twitter to thank the fans, “Hopefully all of you and your families enjoyed the film. I specially hope all the baachas (children) did because I did this film for the kids. Thank you so much. You guys have given me and my team so much love and respect. I can’t believe #abcd2 is over.”
Any Body Can Dance 2 (ABCD 2) is a 3-D dance film that centres on a group of Nalasopara dancers with ambitions to win the World Hip Hop Dance Competition. The film follows their exploits, charting their journey to the top. The leading characters – Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, Prabhudeva, Dharmesh Yelande, Lauren Gottileb, Raghav Juyal, Punit Pathak have put on a praise-worthy performance with power-packed dance moves. The hype and the excitement are palpable throughout the movie.
