It’s Official. Google Latitude For iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch Becomes Available For Download!
Google’s real-time location sharing app for iPhone is now official. A blog post on Google reveals that the Google Latitude app for iPhone is now officially pinned up to the App Store charts and is available as a free download.
The Google Latitude for iPhone app allows users to automatically share their live locations with friends and family, wherever they are and whenever they want. This implies that the application, once installed, will utilize iOS 4’s multitasking feature to run in the background and update your location.
As you traverse across the streets, your current location will be constantly updated over Google Latitude iPhone app which will allows others associated with you to be aware of your current location on a viewable map on their device’s screen.
The application briefly went live a week ago at the App Store but was immediately pulled down claiming that a wrong or older version of the app was pushed up for downloads. However, users can now download Google Latitude for iPhone and other iOS devices from the App Store for free.
In the company’s own terms :
“Starting today, you’ll never again have to answer (or ask) that question when you’re on the go with your iPhone. With the new Google Latitude app for iPhone, you can see where your friends are and now, continuously share where you are – even in the background once you’ve closed the app.
With Latitude, you can:
- See your friends on a map – find out who’s nearby and meet up.
– Share your location continuously with whomever you choose – help friends and family stay in touch with you, even when you cant take out your phone.
– Control your privacy – share only city-level location, hide your location, or turn off background updating at any time.
The application was originally announced in the February of 2009 and was tagged with a “coming soom” label. However, Apple’s strict application policies that were loosened a little after Apple’s recent revision of app policies made way for the Google Latitude app for iPhone, among others, to finally hit the App Store.
The application is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch (3G/4G) and iPad 3G. It is available in 15 languages across 45 countries.
