Olive Pad Tablet PC From India May Rival iPad, Pop Corn Please!
If you thought Notion Ink’s Adam would be the only Android PC in India, think again. Here’s an eye-opener. Just after we recently reported about Indian government’s contrive for launching a low-budget tablet PC for students, some interesting news of another tablet PC called Olive Pad (Androi-based) have come to our notice.
The Olive Pad is claimed to be a direct rival to the Apple’s universally popular iPad in whose praise people have composed eulogies on twitter, posted messages on facebook and above all responded to the trend by perhaps setting records of breakthrough purchases  a tablet-PC maker would ever dream of.
Enter Olive Pad. An Android-based Tablet PC for the Indian markets. Precisely said, the Olive Pad Tablet would be the first Android 2.1-loaded tablet PC to launch in the Indian markets (assuming that it becomes available before the feature-packed Notion Ink Adam hits the streets).
Talking about its specifications, the device is a 7-incher Tablet. Although that already strikes out the its claimed competition against iPad in terms of size, we could still hold on some dust if Apple were to announce a 7-inch iPad (as rumored).
The Olive Pad tablet PC features a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a display resolution of about 800×480 pixels, a pair of cameras – a primary autofocus camera on the back and a secondary VGA front-facing camera to entertain video calls.
Hardware under-the-hood includes a 600MHz ARM processor, 512MB RAM, 512 onboard storage and a microSD card slot which allows for expandable memory of up to 32GB of ample storage for storing your most favorite audio, videos and office documents.
With Android 2.1 as its out-of-the-box OS, The Olive Tablet PC reflects on scope for choosing from about 70000 downloadable apps from the Android Market to customize your device. Perhaps, an ebook reader app would be a perfect compliment for users interested in ebook reading as the 7-inch display is what most ebook readers are sized about.
Other connectivity options include Bluetooth with A2DP, Wi-Fi connectivity, presumably on-board GPS, a 3.5 mm audio jack, a 3G SIM card slot and even more. The device is expected to retail for about 22000 INR to 25000 INR for the Wi-Fi version when it launches this quarter.
We aren’t delving into further comparisons on the Olive Pad Vs iPad ’cause the details about the former are quite scanty at the moment, so we’ll probably hit back with a comparison chart when the company rings the bell with some more details.
More on this as we learn through. Meanwhile, watch the following video to see TechGuru detailing on this interesting piece of Android gadgetry. Follow up in comments, if you wish to
