Nook App For Android Announced, Now Available For Free Download
Yesterday, Barnes and Noble announced the availability of the Nook app for Android smartphones smoothly thrusting itself forward by expanding its presence on the Android smartphone platform. Until this, Amazon’s Kindle app has been coherently dominating as the world’s favorite ereader app for mobile phones.
B&N’s Nook Android app is an eReader app for Android phones that lets you read Barnes and Nobles ebooks on your Android’s handheld beauty. It enables reading of downloadable ebooks in a user-friendly, customizable and easy-to-handle way.
The Nook Android app features support for reading all your B&N ebooks in both portrait and landscape modes, perhaps, the accelerometer sensor of your Android phone has a substantial role to play for these page orientations. Also, the graphical page turns give you a sense of realism, best demoed when you flip papers by just swiping your finger on the screen.
The Nook App for Android comes with an easy-to-use navigation bar, support for customizable font faces and sizes to personalize your reading experience, and support for synchronization with other B&N app enabled devices – a technology similar to Amazon Kindle’s Whispersync.

In simple terms, if you’ve paused reading on page 13, Chapter One of Alice in Wonderland, you can resume reading on any of your Nook-enabled devices like your netook, notebooks, iPhone, iPod Touch, Blackberry, HTC HD2 smartphones and even more, right from where you last left off on the other device.
While you enjoy the luxury of downloading and reading your favorite ebook titles on the go, you also have the liberty to lend your ebooks to your friends. At B&N, they call it ‘LendMe’ technology which allows customers to share supported ebooks for up to 14 days with their friends – of course, without violating the copyrights.
Looks like Amazon’s Kindle app finally has some competition to its class. The Nook Android app is compatible with Android smartphones running Android 1.6. We also hear that Nook apps for other platforms are already underway, so we may expect them to rack up in the stores soon.
