RoboGames 2010While the sports lovers are excited about Vancouver Olympics and packing their bags to head in the same direction Feb 12th through 28th there is another event around the corner which will be attracting a lot of hardcore geeks.

Why did I mention Vancouver 2010 Olympics while talking about a Hardcore Geek event? That’s because this event is considered to be the Geek Olympics where instead of Geeks fighting it out for the medals their inventions do.

The event which was originally called “Robo Olympics” was later renamed to “RoboGames”, apparently Olympics committee has issues with the name.

This is the 7th RoboGames event taking place in San Mateo, California (I got my tickets reserved already) from 23rd April to 25th of April. Guinness Book of Records calls it the world’s biggest Robots event and for a reason!

18 countries competed with over 400 robots in 51 events to win medals and declare their dominance in the in the world of robotics last year.

United States stood first with 85 medals in total with the Mexico in 2nd and UK in third place with 9 and 8 medals respectively. India stood 5th with 3 medals.

If you’ve never heard/saw a Girl-bot, Boy-bot, Fire-Fighting bot, Dancing bots, Golf playing bots, etc. then this is the place to be. For those you cannot make it to the event in person can watch the live broadcast on Ustream .. http://www.ustream.tv/robogames

Watch the following video to get a glimpse of the fun and entertainment this event brings along with some serious technological innovations.
