Joomla CMS Under Attack as 49 Government (House) Sites are Hacked!
![]() |
As most of us were busy listening to what President Obama had to say about the past and the coming year, there were others who were busy hacking into House sites to make insulting remarks against the president.
This isn’t the first time this is happening. More than 15 sites were hacked last August in a similar attempt. All the hacked sites had the following message on display.

The group that hacked the site calls itself “Red Eye Crew” from Brasil.
One thing that remains constant between both the attacks is the company that’s hosting the sites, GovTrends.com. This trend is certainly not good for the company which claims to be the trusted hosting solutions US congress sites and other big brands. That’s most likely to change now.

One thing they don’t seem to claim is that they are the “Secure”, good for them!
Another thing that is supposed to be common between the sites that were hacked last night was that most, if not all, were running on the Joomla Content Management System.
Though the reasons for the security breach are not confirmed yet, it is said that GovTrends service was under maintenance when the hacking took place.
We’ve tried contacting GovTrends on Twitter and we are yet to get a response from the team.
Here are few of the sites that were compromised and as expected, all of these sites are currently down for maintenence and should be back up once GovTrends guys have things under control.
