google_logoGoogle threatens to pull out of China based on the recent cyber-attacks on Google and other organizations. Google attack was allegedly carried out to crackdown on the human rights activists in China which also compromised Google’s intellectual property.

Though the attack was not successful as it only managed to get some trivial information of two of the Gmail accounts Google is putting its foot down and reconsidering its operations in China.

This is the first time ever a company as big and as popular as Google has publically raised a voice and is prepared to stand against Chinese government. Few on the social web are calling it an intelligent move on Googles part to pull out as they are unable to beat its rival Baidu but I see it as a silly argument and people who entertain such thoughts are not just insulting Google but also justifying the suppressing Chinese government.

Google holds the #2 spot behind Baidu which Yahoo and Microsoft have long been fighting for. So giving up this spot is no business intelligence in a country where #2 also means millions of visitors every single day!

Besides the very obvious reason of defending human rights in China Google also defends and tries to repair its already damaged do-no-evil impression for playing along with the Chinese government for years.

Google is destined to shutdown in China and the route they’ve taken looks like they don’t intend to go back into the market for a LONG LONG time to come.

I personally don’t see any difference between Chinese and Iranian government who have always strived to control the freedom of speech and other human rights. The only two differences I see when it comes to Chinese government is 1) It is mindful of national economic growth and development and is aggressively working towards global economic dominance. This works in favor of the Chinese people and 2) The bigger economies around the world don’t stand against the Chinese government as a lot of economic benefits are at risk.

America is 2 and a ½ trillion dollars in debt from the Chinese government which is one of the reasons why they never speak out against the government candidly, not even when over a 150 protesters were killed in one of the recent protests.

I encourage anyone and everyone who reads this post to voice their opinion in any form possible. If you are a blogger write about it, let’s your friends and colleagues know what’s happening in China or send this story to your friends at least.
