GTalk Freezes on Windows 7? Try This!
![]() |
GTalk has been a pain in the neck since I’ve upgraded to Windows 7. Initially it worked fine however after the first couple of days it started freezing as soon as I received a message or a notification.
Things went bad to worse as the application would simply hang as soon as it is launched and then came the worst; it froze the entire OS as soon as I received a notification.
Restarting the machine did not help. I reinstalled the application, No Luck. Clean reinstallation, still no Luck.
Read through a couple of forums and found a temporary solution which keeps GTalk running on Windows 7 without a problem.
Temporary solution for this issue is: “Disable All Notifications”
- Launch GTalk
- Click on Settings
- Go-to Notifications
- Check “Disable all notifications”

Once I disabled all notification, I restarted GTalk and logged into my account, it worked just fine. After a day of uninterrupted use I enabled the notifications again but have had no issues.
Enabling notifications again might not help all of us but you can still give it a try.
Hope Google will release an update to solve the issue soon.

Piece of shit google talk still freezes. This happens to my XP computer at work also by the way every now and then. But in 64bit Win7, it freezes as soon as I log in.
My problem is Google Talk freezing up ONLY when receiving an IM. It was the same on Win7 RC1, and now on Win7 Pro. It works fine for a few weeks on a fresh install, then something happens?
Once I disable the incoming chat sound, my Google Talk returns to normal (without the sound, obviously). Enabling the sound again just brings the problem right back!
No sound it is then.

i disabled my notifications but am still having these problems!!!!!!!
what the hell? i love google, why is it failing me now?
