Bamboo Touch and Pen I have been using Bamboo Pen and Touch since a while now which also means I have been adding to this article little by little as I use the product on daily basis.

But recently when apple released its new Magic Mouse I thought I should have published this article some time ago. Read the article to know why!

Bamboo Pen and Touch is a fantablous gadget that adds natural multi-touch gestures and pen capabilities for enhanced and enjoyable PC performance.

The moment Bamboo Touch and Pen is connected and the software is loaded it instantly transforms the computer into a machine which understands natural gestures and flicks from the pen.

To make sure I use this product to the fullest, I detached my MX Revolutions mouse for couple of days and totally relied on Bamboo.

As expected it was pretty tough in the beginning but within couple of hours it became so much fun. There is almost nothing that Bamboo cannot do and a Mouse can.

The gestures that this pad understands are not something you will have to learn over time. If you have used touch device before (even the touch pad on the laptop) then you pretty much know how to use this gadget already.

To make things easier the installation is followed by an easy to follow interactive tutorial which runs the users through the features list of the gadget.

Bamboo Pen and Touch also has the buttons on the side of the pad which can be configured to do several different things. I’ve configured one of these buttons to act as the middle click on the mouse.

So, when it comes to gestures, you can see that there is nothing new that Apple is offering with its Magic Mouse, it’s just another shape and form.

The pen feature is simply amazing. It does take about 10-15 minutes to get started with the pen feature but once you do, there is no stopping you.

The writing feature using Pen works with any application installed on your computer. That includes, MS Word, Notepad, WordPad or applications like GTalk, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, etc… and once you start using it, trust me you won’t want to come back to typing.

Here is a snapshot of how you can use the writing tool in application. The one you see below is MS Word.

The virtual writing pad is very cleverly designed with a lot of features that help you get through the writing part easily.

As seen in image above, each written word is immediately digitized and is shown below. Users can get to the editing area with a single click on the digitized version if any corrections are to be made. If it can recognize the writing so messed up as shown in the image then it can recognize any writing.

With the pen tool things can only get cooler! This tool can also be used with the image editing software’s like Adobe, etc..

Instead of using brushes and pencils, you can simply use the pen to draw, paint, outline, etc.. in your favorite image editor.

The following image shows how I am using the pen to give myself a makeover (a bad one) in Adobe Photoshop.

What you see in the image above is by no means a quality work but it shows how someone who knows very little about Photoshop can also use Bamboo to do something like this. Bamboo seamlessly works with most of the image editing software’s out there.

Here are a few things I think will make Bamboo Pen and Touch even better.

Make it Bluetooth enabled
Make it smaller or the size of a regular mouse pad
Add a screen to the pad like the one on Cintiq
