USB Secure: Password Protect USB-PEN-FLASH Drives with USB Secure (Get Free License)

USB-SecureOne of the greatest illusions in today’s technology is said to be the illusions of privacy and security. We are forced to face our worst fears when we hear about millions of account passwords being published to online forums but that does not stop us from living our illusion and we shouldn’t!

Well, the good news is, not everyone is capable of breaching the privacy if you are careful and take the right steps to protect yourself.

One of the most unsecure gadgets we carry around is the external storage devices in several shapes and forms. Though few of them offer built-in security, most don’t and that’s where NewSoftware’s USB-Secure offers its valuable service.

USB-Secure offers the easiest way of securing your Pen drives, Flash drives, Memory Cards, etc. The software does not need any installation even if a protected device is connected to a new PC. The auto-run wizard will popup and let you unprotect the device without any installation or administrative privileges.

It is compatible with Win 2000/XP/Vista and the upcoming Windows 7 OS. The software is priced at $29.95, click here to buy USB-Secure (Get free license for USB-Secure).

Run through the following steps to secure any small external storage device..

  1. Run the installation file. Select the storage device that needs to be protected during the installation wizard.USB-Secure Installation
  2. Hit “Next” and “Yes” to enter the password to protect the selected portable deviceUSB-Secure ProtectUSB-Secure Password
  3. The trial version of this software only lets you protect any device 3 times after which you will have to buy the license.
  4. Once the protected device is connected to any other PC, you will see the following dialogueSelect, “Open the USB Drive with Password” and “Unprotect this USB Drive” to enter the password and see the protected information.USB-Secure AutoPlayUSB-Secure Unprotect
  5. Enter the password and hit “unprotect” to see the protected content on the storage device.

I tried this software on an SD card of my camera and what it does once the content is protected is it gathers all the information and stores it in an .exe file which cannot be opened unless the right password is provided.

The following screenshots show you how the content on the SD card is organized before and after using a password to protect it.
