Huggy Pajama

Singapore has been in the news for its innovative technologies and fast growing startup culture. Huggy Pajama is another concept coming out of Singapore which is turning quite a few heads.

The project is taking shape at the Mixed Reality Labs of  National University of Singapore and is expecting a commercial release in the coming months.

According to the project page Huggy Pajama is designed to fill the emotional gaps between a child and the parent who mostly interact from remote locations. Huggy Pajama is a jacket that is worn by the child; the jacket has pressure points installed which kick into action when signals are received from a remote device over the internet, usually sent by a parent.

My two cents, technology such as Huggy Pajama can never replace human emotions or a mothers touch. Such technologies that are aimed at children will only complicate their though process and childhood memories.

Quote from the project page – “Children of young ages need a lot of care, guidance and love.” I agree, but what they don’t need is neon colored jacket which fills with air when a person sitting on the other end of the camera hugs a toy or pushes a button.

Huggy Pajama

We cannot take refuge in technology and blame our hectic lives for doing so. Technology has already replaced a lot of human interaction with Voice conferences, Video conferences, Facebooks, Twitter, etc.. that make it possible to be in several places at the same time which is humanly impossible.

The following video explains and demonstrates the Huggy Pajama system, take a look.. Also, leave a comment and let me know what you guys think of this technology!
