All You’ve Been Waiting for – New Windows Mobile Phones, Windows MarketPlace and Windows Mobile 6.5
Microsoft announced the launch of Windows MarketPlace and the availability of new Windows Mobiles around the world.
The announcement of new Windows Mobiles is expected to be followed by the launch of over 30 new phones in more than 20 countries by end of 2009. Majority of these phones will be launched in the European and Asian markets. Microsoft aims at a broad range of audience with a variety of models and pricing to go with the new phone.
In a recent survey mobile users credited their mobile phone which keeps them in touch with their personal life at Work. This includes interacting with friends online, uploading pictures, texting family and friends or simply browsing online sites.
Mobile phones are playing an increasingly important role in helping users keep a balanced life. How efficiently you manage your personal and professional life using a mobile phone boils down to the kind of phone you have and platform it runs on.
Windows Mobiles comes with a free feature called “My Phone” that lets its users backup all the important information on the phone and restore the data back in case of lost or damaged phone.
The premium version of “My Phone” allows access to its “Lost Phone” features that include, mapping phones current location, remote lock, “if found” message on the screen, completely erase the information on the phone, etc.. all of these features are free until 30th of Nov after which a fee of $4.99 will be applicable for those who want to continue using this service.
Much talked about, Windows Markeplace went live today with over 200 mobile applications to start with. Microsoft is certainly aiming at App Store with this new launch and has over 750 ISVs worldwide who will continue to work with Microsoft to release new application regularly.
Few highlighted applications that are currently available on Windows Marketplace are Facebook, MySpace, Twikini, Guitar Hero World Tour, Sudoku, etc…
Company offers the option of returning the application that is bought from Windows MarketPlace within 24hrs of time of download. In case of return a total refund will be made to the customer, this includes the 30% and 70% share of Microsoft and developers respectively.
Gizmodo was quick to review both, Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows MarketPlace at its launch and against Microsofts wishes the review is far from positive.
Apple did an excellent job with iPhone OS to set a benchmark and anything that falls short of meeting the expectations of an iPhone user simply isn’t good enough. So far only Palm’s webOS has been able to emerge as one of the closest competitors of iPhone but as expected has a LOT of ground to cover.
I personally liked a few features on Windows Mobile 6.5 and thought “iPhone should have had that!” but overall Microsoft has a lot of work to do to even become a serious contender in the race to be one of the best Smart Phones.
