Stealth Notebook/Tablet – Ruggedized and ‘Environmentally Sealed’
![]() |
There are a lot of fancy notebooks and laptops out there in the market. We have seen laptops with rotatable and tilting displays, fancy outer shells, unusual size forms, but we never saw any of it metamorphose into something else. At least not like the Megatron does. (Haven’t you seen transformers yet?)
But, this is something really amazing. A notebook that can transform into a tablet PC to save space while you are travelling. Perhaps, this is something which focuses on the concept of ultra mobile gadgetry.
Stealth Computer have come up with a Rugged Notebook that can change into a tablet (definitely, not all by itself). Well, I feel like calling it a convertible coupe, oops, convertible tablet PC, I mean. It is dubbed as the Notebook Warrior 2000.
The 13.3 inch WXGA (Wide Extended Graphics Array) sunlight viewable LCD panel of the stealth notebook has a resistive touch screen. The display of the screen can desirably swiveled around a pivoted joint and can be viewed at different angles to meet your convenience and comfort.
When the screen is further tilted and folded on its back, the stealth notebook is transformed into a smart touchscreen tablet. In either of its forms, it looks rock solid and rugged cool.

- Transformer Notebook : Rugged. Rock Solid.
Under the hard shell, it silently runs a 1.06GHz ultra-low voltage processor designed by, ofcourse, Intel. To beef up the processor capabilities, up to 4GB DDR2 memory can be stacked up while the 160GB shock mounted HDD provides enough storage space to carry that’s-so-important data with you.
Now if you are prone to working in the dark and the radiating light from the screen is just not enough, then the keyboard that is backlit with LEDs will definitely comfort you. Ah yes, the keyboard is spill resistant as well, so never hesitate to serve it a drink when you are enjoying one. And mind you, it’s not going to falter due to the spill.

The ruggedized notebook is encapsulated in a magneisum alloy chasis with built-in protective doors for all I/O ports. Not just this, it can survive upto 1 meter of accidental drops, dust, extreme temperatures, water sprays, and works fine even at high altitudes. And, that’s proven.
The netbook-convertible-tablet can sense both finger touch or stylus alike, that gives you a variety. Local connectivity options include Bluetooth, Gigabit LAN and RJ11 Modem. WWAN, HSPDA/GPRS/GSM/WCDMA provide you a variety of optional connectivity. A GPS receiver, modem, DVD burner are among other factory fittings the stealth notebook comes with. A finger print scanner fills the security void.
The stealth tablet PC has a battery back up time of up to 6 hours and can run either Microsoft Windows XP Tablet or Microsoft Windows Vista Business. It measures 4.1 kg in weight and is available for sale now starting from $4895 onwards.
In short, the Stealth NW-2000 Rugged Notebook/tablet is the ideal solution for Government; industrial/commercial customers who are interested in the ability to work in rough environments yet maintain productivity without the risk of data or performance losses.
Well, seems like this era is for the evolution of ruggedized gadgets, if you remember the few rugged gadgets we mentioned earlier, the Casio Exilim Digital camera, ruggedized phone, the Land Rover S1, Rugged watches, Rugged USB flash drive – the IRONKEY and finally a rugged notebook-convertible-tablet. The Stealth Notebook meets Military Standard MIL-810 specifications.

These kinda notebook were first made by Panasonic and were called Toughbook. They are coming out in different variants and the specs of the toughbooks are way higher than the stealth. Initially, the US armed forces were the ones making extensive use of it. You should see the tests performed on those babies. Also they have a whole range of rugged notebooks right from business kinda to car laptops. My fav is this one http://www.panasonic.com/business/toughbook/fully-rugged-laptop-toughb ook-30.asp
One of the best thing about them is their battery life. 9+ hrs. That is almost a whole day's work on battery. Check em out
