Wetoku.com can become a valuable web meeting or an online interview service for bloggers and for reporters involved with rapidly growing 2.0 journalism.

This service lets you interview people over their regular webcams, record the conversation and quickly publish it on the web. Simple right?

Wetoku does a few things, 1) Lets you interview anyone anywhere in the world 2) Publish a professional looking interview video to the web instantly, 3) Eliminates the need to use screencasting and other conferencing softwares to record interviews, upload them to a video sharing web service and share it with the viewers..

Wetoku is currently in closed beta and the first rule of using a service which is tagged as closed beta is expect a few things to go wrong or not work as suppose to and this is exactly what happened when I was testing the service for the review.

I started with filling the form to start the meeting and shared the interview link with one of my colleague but couldn’t see each other on the screen.

I am certain that this is just a one off thing and before the service opens for public beta things such as these will be fixed.

Anyway hosting a web meeting or an online interview on wetoku is really simple. Login to the service and click on “Start new Interview” or “Start Your Interview” in the top right corner of the screen and fill in the interview details.

Once the form is submitted you will see a URL which can be shared with the interviewee to join the interview.

Following screen shows you what the interview screen looks like once the interview starts..

Ideally you should see the interviewee on the other side of the screen but it didn’t quite work for me that way.. hope it does for you..

Once you see your interviewee on the screen just hit the red dot under your video to start recording the interview.

Recording won’t start unless you have an interviewee with you.. (Quite reasonable)

Once the interview is over and the recording is done.. simply copy the <embed> code and share it on your blog, website, etc..

The service is definitely valuable and I am looking forward to use it in the near future, not just for interviewing people but also to manage projects and talk to my team in different parts of the world.

As the service is not open for public use yet you can click here to register for an invite..

Update: David Lee, one of the co-founders at Wetoku told us that the bugs were being fixed and next time I try the services I most likely will be able to see the person on the other side as well. Also, he shared the invite code for TNerd readers exclusively.

If you want to try the service before others do, visit http://wetoku.com/beta and punch in “tnerd1000” in the “Invitation code” box.
