Amazon Organizes a Virtual Job Fair on Second Life!
The tough economic times does not seem to have much effect on Amazon’s hiring. Good for us!
Amazon is holding its first ever job fair (Today, 14th Of July only) on Second Life today. I registered and downloaded Second Life to check it out and I should say I am impressed with what they’ve put together.
Click here to download Second Life client and here to visit Amazon Developers 2 Island to see how its really done! Also if you are really looking for a job then you might want to check out Amazon/careers before you get to the virtual job fair.
Amazon is hiring for quite a few positions from engineering to management and most of these positions are available in Seattle.
Anyway coming back to the whole innovative style of hiring, I think it was good. Lady sitting at the reception helping you out with general information and redirecting visitors to the other available Amazon recruiters and helpers in the same area for more detailed and specific information you might require.
If joining second life was as easy as registering for twitter I think this would have kicked off a new trend in the corporate world with every company having a virtual office at Second Life, but I don’t think that will happen.
Following screen-shots should give you a good idea of what the virtual job fair looked like…
This approach of hiring looks effective as it cuts down on the inconvenience of personally visiting the office which can be a bit of a bother for the working professionals. It also cuts down on the cost of organizing such an event.
All that said, only the result will determine the success of such an event.
