How-To: Tether on iPhone OS 3.0 Without Jailbreaking!
iPhone tether is one of the features iPhone users have been waiting for, others include Cut, Copy & Paste, Video Capture, etc..
All of these features including iPhone tethering is possible on the latest version of iPhone OS 3.0. Download iPhone OS 3.0.
To successfully use iPhone as a modem on your laptop iPhone users are required to install a software which is available at http://help.benm.at
Follow the simple steps to install the software for tethering on iPhone.
- Visit http://help.benm.at using the browser on your iPhone
- Scroll down to find “Tethering and Internet Options” and click on “MobileConfigs”
- Select your Country
- Select your Carrier
- Click “Install” on the profile page and click on “Install now”
After the installation all you got to do is enable the tethering option and you are all setup to connect to the computer and start using iPhone as a modem.
Follow the steps to enable tethering on iPhone
- Go to setting > General
- Got to Network
- Click on Internet Tethering
- Select ON
- Select either Bluetooth or USB cable, whichever you wish to connect with.
That’s it. Now you can easily use the iPhone as a modem. All the iPhone users waiting for tethering on iPhone have another reason to keep their iPhones close to them at ALL times!
Though you can surf the web using iPhone on the laptop, your mobile phone carrier might not like it as you just might use-up all the bandwidth ideally made available for MMS.
It’s not very clear yet but carriers are certainly planning to identify users using tethering and charge extra or even disconnect them in some cases.
So be careful and use tethring on iPhone only if you have to!

Hi,
Tethering is very much possible on AT&T as well but like I mentioned in the article carriers are not happy with it as users will be using additional bandwidth at no additional cost.
Carriers will most likely identify the users tethering on their network and either charge extra or even disconnect! So be careful with it!
I have a laptop with Windows Vista. Can somebody describe me in details step-by-step creation of network connection using Iphone as the modem. I did the Iphone part and enabled tethering but my laptop does not recognize Iphone as the modem - it just classifies it as "digital camera" with access to internal camera memory. Do I need to install Itunes to activate modem option or to install some additional software on laptop as I did when I was using external Sierra wireless card? Thanks.
works fine been using it on vista laptop since the 3.0 update and i use it all the time at work and no problems thankyou
I follow your directions until I get to the "Network" setting, and when I click that there is no "internet" button or "internet teathering" option. How come? What can I do.

Does this pertain to AT&T as reps from AT&T have stated that tethering is not allowed on their network even with the new iphone or new 3.0...so are you saying that it can be done even with them without jailbreaking?
