5 Online Color Palette Generators, Get Creative!

I recently visited a brilliant new site which helps you generate color themes and palettes based on several filters. This one is called Colorotate, it was interesting because the only other online color theme generator I was aware of was Adobe’s Kuler.

I did use a lot of desktop based applications to create color theme but just wanted to see how innovative web based applications have become.

I started looking around to see if I can find more of similar sites and guess what I did!

Following is the list of color theme generating sites (worth mentioning)..

Color Hunter: This is one of the simplest and most straight forward color generators of the list. Color Hunter generates color theme from any given image. It lets you upload an image, feed in the image URL or simply mention a color tag and it immediately generates color themes.

Color Jack: This is another service which offers interesting tools for color generation. The front page offers existing color pallets in the pixel format users can either choose from the existing color formats or create their own using the tools.

Color Galaxy, Color Sphere and Color Studio are the tools users can use to generate their favorite color theme.

The site is also capable of exporting created color tables in .ai for Illustrator and .act for Photoshop.

Colorotate: Colorotate is the latest on the block. It offers some advance techniques of generating color palettes. It offers a 3D approach of creating color tables; it offers a lot of customization options as it’s a flash based site.

Aviary’s Toucan is another advance color palette generator. Users can upload images, feed in the URL, fetch images from Facebook, Picasa or Flickr and choose the colors from the images.

Color Lovers offer COPASO which offers similar features. It lets you upload images, select from the colors, create, save and publish your color palettes.

Bottom line! Most of these services offer similar features in a roundabout way. What it eventually boils down to is the UI and how easy it is to create and use color palettes or the existing user base, because, the bigger the user base the more options to choose from.
