Trouble in Twitter Paradise
The Blogosphere has been reporting that there is a new virus attack that is creating havoc on Twitter.
The Twitter service has been infected by a worm which is redirecting its users to StalkDaily.com. The virus has been sending auto-tweets such as "Hey everyone, join StalkDaily.com", It’s a site like Twitter but with pictures, videos and so much more."
For now please do not visit the site StalkDaily and if you have still not been infected do not click on any link related to StalkDaily.
Twitter’s spam watching account had updated this morning that it is aware of the issue and is currently working on it.
If you have already been infected it is suggested to follow some basic steps as mentioned on Twittercism who first reported the issue.
- In your browser, clear your cache and empty all of your cookies. (This can be found in your settings.)
- Log out of TweetDeck or any external applications you are using.
- On Twitter.com, change your password.
- Log back in. It should be okay. If so, log back into TweetDeck et al.
- Go back and delete any tweets sent by you recommending StalkDaily. This is important.
- Report @stalkdaily in a tweet to Twitter’s @spam account as follows: @spam @stalkdaily
TechCrunch also reported that there is an update on StalkDaily.com as mentioned below, however please do not visit the site.
[Update]
Twitter claims that the issue is resolved now and the exploit has been fixed now. Virus apprently was taking advantage of the option where users can execute code in the "Bio" section of the profile.
