StrokeIt: Use Mouse-Gestures On Any Application
People who spend majority of the time on computer everyday look for ways to reduce or simplify the task even if it means reducing a few clicks.
This article will discuss one of the softwares which does just that, reduce the number of clicks. If you have ever used All-in-One Gestures or Mouse Gestures Redox plugins for Firefox which recognizes mouse gestures and executes commands, you will love this software too.
Unlike All-in-One Gestures or Mouse Gestures Redox which work online in Firefox, StrokeIt works on the operating system, meaning on any application. However, if you require StrokeIt to do an application specific task by identifying a gesture then the user will have to add that specific gesture to StrokeIt.
Launch the application once installed (Download it from here)
Notice a cursor-like icon in the taskbar. Click on this mouse-like icon and you will see the command editor window.

The first thing you do after (any) application is installed is go to the Settings/Configuration/Preferences and set them according to your needs.
Double-click on the cursor-like icon on the taskbar, then click on Edit > Preferences. Beside other options, here you can set which mouse click will be used to draw the gestures.

Once you know which mouse click is to be used to draw gestures, next logical thing is to to learn gestures. Go to the learning mode, click on Edit > Learn Gestures once you are in the Command Editor.

Once you are done with that, you are all set to draw gestures on any applications. For example as you can see in the image below I the use of gestures in Microsoft Word.

The gesture “S” stands for “Save” so as soon as you draw the gesture it shows the save-windows immediately.

Similarly you can use these gestures on any application. Few of the applications which exist on StrokeIt by default are..
- Explorer
- Internet Explorer
- Kazaa
- LeapFTP
- mIRC
- Nero Burning Rom
- Opera
- Photoshop
- Outlook Express
- Winzip
- WinRAR
- Visual Studio
This is probably a better option than Firefox plugins because it won’t slow Firefox down and does work on other applications as well. Click here to visit StrokeIt site and here to downlod the application.
