Burn CDs and DVDs with BurnAware: A free burning software
Backups are very important for personal PCs as much as they are for corporate systems, Today, we are going to see a software that helps you write CDs and DVDs and hence backup your precious data. The software in question is BurnAware and is a very basic CD/DVD writing software. It’s just perfect for users who want to keep away from the sophisticated CD/DVD writing softwares.
Feature
- Create audio, DVD-Video and data discs
- Make and record disc images
- Burn bootable disc images
- Erase / Format rewritable discs
- On-the-fly writing for all image types (no staging to hard drive first)
- Auto-verification of written files
- Supports CD-Text and unicode characters
Limitations
- Cannot create bootable discs and disc images
- Cannot copy CDs and DVDs
- You cannot use it for commercial purposes
- It doesn’t support simultaneous disc writing
Some of these limitations can be overcome if you are willing to spend some money on the Home version (One time $29.95) and can get a complete package with the Professional version (One time $39.95). Writing is pretty smooth. I tried burning a data DVD and it worked just perfect.

Hi, As I said we tested it burning data. I'd however try burning a music CD. And it's great that you have provided feedback to us on this post. I am sure this will help other readers. I'd get back to you once I have burnt an audio CD and an ISO file. If I do face an issue, I'll probably try my luck with the awful support you are talking about to see if they respond. Thanks again for the feedback!
I would like to suggest another CD/DVD burning software which is completely free. Its called Infra Recorder(http://infrarecorder.org/). From what I see it supports most available features of BurnAware. Besides being open source and free it also allows Copying CDs and DVDs (non copyrighted). Another great feature is that a portable version is available. however it might lack a bit in user interface than BurnAware, Still one can more or less use it easily.
Hey..
I see a comment from you after a long time.. thanks for sharing the the other CD/DVD burning software.. will surely check it out..

I have used BurnAware in the past and tested it with many tasks in hopes of finding a free burning solution I could recommend...unfortunately BurnAware is not the one.
When it comes to Data Backup, BurnAware does the job pretty good but thats about where I stop liking it.
Audio CD burning is awful. All audio cds can hold up to about 80 min of music however BurnAware is only able to burn about 65 min because it adds at least a minute of useless silence to the end of every track burnt. Therefore making it unable to copy some audio cd's for backing up.
The ISO Burning is pretty decent but I had problems with this program when it came to writing ISOs...it often did the same thing it did with the audio by adding a lot of useless data making the ISO too large to then burn to a copy.
I would give it about a 6.7 / 10 because it does do the job it says it does but at times it doesn't do it well...it would have gotten a 7.5 had their support been worth a damn. I reported the problems that I just stated to them the moment I found them and that was about 3 or 4 months ago and they never responded.
