Voice and Video now Available on Gmail Chat

Google announced much awaited video capability for Gmail today. It is available for both versions of chat, Gmail chat and GTalk Client. Gmail chat users need to download a browser plugin to enable the “Voice and Video” option on Gmail chat. Click here to download the plugin.

This feature might not be available to all Gmail chat users immediately as the Gmail team plans to roll it out in the next one or two days. This feature is built on open-standards so that other applications and networks can interoperate with this feature on Gmail chat.

Google takes this launch one step further by offering discounts upto 30% on selected Logitech cameras at Buy.com. Click here to see the camera’s on offer.

This feature kind of completes the feature list for GTalk as now I don’t have to logon to any other service for a quick video chat.

Update: Voice and Video are currently available on Gmail chat only. GTalk Client does not carry this feature yet.
