It’s Official, The Wedding is Off. Google, Yahoo Call Off the Ads Deal
Personally I didn’t like the idea of Google and Yahoo coming together on ads. With whatever margin but Yahoo is suppose to be the closest competitor of Google in Ads and Search. This deal would have meant that Yahoo has given up on innovation in this space.
Google just announced that the ads deal with Yahoo is officially off. While the post announcing this news bragged about Google’s superior technology, it also diplomatically meant that Yahoo is no good. Ending the agreement is a smart move on Google’s part as they avoided some a legal battle which would have exposed their goal of not only dominating but killing the competition with this strategic partnership.
While I agree that more relevant ads mean more clicks which is a win win situation for users, publishers, advertisers and companies, I also think that a healthy competition brings the best innovation forward.
